Haven, my credibility is shot? LMAO.

Who in their right mind would ever utter the phrase "self determination" in conjunction with Communism. I have heard it all now.

You are proof to me that our institutions of higher learning are not teaching bright young people to think independantly. You have been indoctrinated by the left.

So, the champion of freedom and higher learning can't spell "independent".

    How deliciously ironic.

Communism has never existed in its true form in the modern world. North Korea, Cuba, China, etc. are Socialist countries. The essence of communism is that there is no government. All of these nations have military dictatorships. The idea of communism is actually a great one, unfortunately it cannot exist because of the selfishness of man. People naturally want to get as much as they can, not as much as they need, and to give as much as they must, not as much as they can. In a perfect world, communism would be ideal, but since we do not live in a perfect world, good old capitalism suits me just fine.

Tex, I find your constant generalizations and reliance on cliches ("don't believe everything Rush Limbaugh tells you!") as funny as anything Jim's posted and that is really saying something.

You contribute basically nothing to these discussions other than trite, dismissive posts. That's not much of a track record either.

Let me ask you this: if you think Jim's position is indicative of someone who listens to Rush Limbaugh too much, how many hours a week do you listen to his show...?

I only ask because the answer is either "not much"/"never", in which case you look pretty foolish commenting on it, or "a lot!" in which case you look pretty dumb for badly misinterpreting Limbaugh's position on China.

In my case, I listen for less than 20 minutes a week; I find Limbaugh's show to be somewhat entertaining, on occasion, but mostly boring. I'll catch a couple minutes here or there as I drive to lunch. However, when you are glued to your mattress with mono (as I was for the last four weeks), there's something very comforting about the steady drone of the radio. So I heard quite a bit of him the last two weeks.

And I can tell you that Jim is to Rush Limbaugh as Stalin is to Gore. Politically, he's so far to the extreme as to be incomparable.

Brian, I tune into Rush for about the same amount of time that you do. Mostly in the car, until he says something that angers me to the point that my driving gets very aggressive.

Why do I listen to the fool? I enjoy finding out what's happening within the lunatic fringe he represents.

I personally feel you look pretty foolish commenting on my posts. Trite and dismissive? How can one help it when the title of the thread is "Communist China is the New Evil Empire". I would be just as trite and dismissive if the title were "Kelvin Cato is the Greatest Center in the NBA" because the two titles are equally ludicrous. You trying to call me to the carpet on this one must mean it's a slow day at the Dell-o-torium today.

Jim and Rush are equally extreme. I guess your blinders don't allow you to see this.

And, if you don't like my "generalizations", I have an idea for you:

So you catch 20 minutes a week of a program that airs for 15 hours per week, but you feel you're qualified to comment intelligently on a specific position Rush Limbaugh's taken?

It sounds to me like you're allowing other people to tell you what to think. I mean that must be it, because there's no way you'd ever comment on something without having anything more than a best-guess sort of familiarity with it, right...?

Now, as I was trying to point out, I heard pretty much the entirety of his broadcasts the past two weeks, and I don't know how else to say this other than you are completely wrong on where Limbaugh's China position fits in the political spectrum.

Do you understand that? You caught 20 minutes of his show. I caught 12+ hours last week (which is probably why it took me so long to kick the virus). I think I am a lot more familiar with what he says he thinks about China than you are.

In implying that someone as nutso as Jim is in the same political boat as Limbaugh, you're as wrong as someone who claims water's not wet.

As for your posts being trite and dismissive, thank you for admitting it. How can one help it, you ask? One can keep their mouth shut when they have nothing of substance to add to a conversation. This is what separates 14-yr olds from 40-yr olds.

I am sorry to have to give such basic advice to someone so much older than me, but trust me-- this will serve you well in your dealings with other people.

China isn't, and never will be an empire because they don't have the same expansionist goals as the Soviet Union, nor the ability to realize them.

Oh, and we had to defend South Korea because we as a government made sure South Korea could not defend itself.

    Guilty as charged re: ego.

Tex, when you hear those yawner witticisms that you so love to repeat (your last post consisted entirely of them), do you write them down for future reference? Or do you just make it a point to memorize them...?

Yes, intelligent debate. Here's how it went:

You made a remark that to me seemed based strictly on preconceived notions rather than experience. You compared Jim's wacko position on China to that of Rush Limbaugh.

I asked you how much exposure you'd had to Limbaugh since I had heard 12 hours of him during the China crisis and found his position to be much closer to center than Jim's.

You replied that you listened to Rush for approximately 20 minutes a week and for me to just agree with you that he and Jim were equally "extreme".

I found that to be borderline insane. I had 36 times the exposure to Limbaugh that you did and as such, I feel I have a much better understanding of his position on the issue. I pointed out in very specific terms that based on what I heard Limbaugh say on the issue last week-- again, 12 hours worth instead of 20 minutes-- you are off the mark in insisting he occupies as extreme a position as Jim.

Your response was hilariously convoluted. You dropped the issue-- which I expected-- and apparently decided that since I'd insulted your maturity, that was a pretty good tack to take. So you returned the favor. You also, interestingly enough, began repeatedly referring to what a "slow day" at work I was having (which later became insistances that I 'get a life') even as you replied to every single post I made. Some (the honest) would call that hypocrisy.

Now, here's what I wanted from you: some shred, just a quote or example of any kind, that led you to believe that Rush Limbaugh is as much a nut as Jim here is. In the multiple hours of the program I caught, nothing Limbaugh said led me to believe he regarded China as anything other than a misguided world-power wannabe. That's based on quite a lot of listening on my part.

Now, you don't like Rush Limbaugh, so not surprisingly you've attributed to him a position that he does not hold. You couldn't defend that position when pressed and you obviously felt foolish about it when I pointed out how prejudicial and illogically reasoned it was-- so you dropped any pretense of defending yourself, began insisting that what I had missed was in actuality a sophisticated joke, and devolved into poor attempts at insulting me.

Predictable and laughable. You've done nothing to refute my posts, and you're the only one here who doesn't know how obvious it is.

At least, as you point out, this BBS isn't to be taken seriously. I'm glad in that regard, because that means that the savaging your reputation has taken won't bother you.

Your best bet is probably to return to posting offhand cliches.

Brian, like I said, you seriously need to get a life. The seriousness with which you take refuting other people's posts, as well as the seriousness with which you take the "debate" in this BBS, are absolutely comical. The reason I don't try to refute your posts is because 1)trying to make sense with you is like talking to a brick wall and 2)talking politics with you is like talking biology with Leon Spinks. You just don't understand, and I doubt you ever will.

I don't have the need nor the time to feed my ego like you obviously do. Your posts continue to prove my point that you obviously have no life. Are you sure you aren't a comedy writer in disguise?

The "savaging my reputation has taken"...are you f*cking for real, or are you just smoking crack out of a paper bag? Do you really think I give one single flying fornication about how you or anyone views my "reputation" on this BBS?

The answer is no. My ego isn't as large as yours. Thank God.

I never knew I was hanging out at such a serious place for 4 years. Is this a basketball site, or the Oxford debating society?

As for "yawner witticisms", well, they beat the hell out of "yawner conservatisms", and those are the only things I've ever seen you spew in this BBS. That, and worthless point-by-point posts that are designed to do nothing more than provoke arguments. I pity you.

My advice to you doesn't change. Get a life. You need one badly. As badly as this BBS needs humor.

Why do I fell ther need to respond to something like this??
who knows, but I have much the same feelings about Brian Kagey as well. Surely he is an intelligent man, he has his belifs, he sticks by them. my problem is the forcefulness with wich he defends his posts. debating with you IS like debating with the deaf is a better way to state it. I was disturbed by some of your comments, however being ever aware that inflections, sarcasm, and humor all translate VERY poorly in text, I give you the benefit of the doubt.
The one thing I will take issue with is your feeling the need to point out when people have flaws as to help them fit in.
This reminded me of your Umbrella thread as well as the Movie "Gattica" as well as the book "A Brave New World" Why should people conform to YOUR ideals? what makes you think fitting in makes their life better? Also why do you make personal attacks on someone in order to demopnstrate how much they are not "fitting in"? It seems to me that this is a defense mechanism.
In the Ego thread I explained how I went from extremely shy desperately wanting to fit in to becomeing the king of my school, and a leader/trend setter for others to follow. I dictated what was "cool" I decided who fit in. I did this as an over compensation from my internal struggle with my own confidence. The way you post seems to reveal that you have a huge ego, but you are afraid to be bold and make decisions on your own, to be true to yourself. You want to dictate social policy, but you yourself dont even want to follow that policy. It seems to me that you are projecting, or rather over projecting your opinions because you are afraid that you may agree with something someone else has to say.
I may and likely am TOTALLY off, and that is cool, because its my opinion. You also may interpret this post as completely the opposite of what I meant while writing it. Which is all good too.

Tex merely stated his opinions. I agree with some of them. I disagree as well.

Limbaugh to me is an extremist. He is redicu-la-Moose. There are some "liberal" personalities that make me just as sick. again that is just my opinion.
I lump all you super conservatives into the same bunch. They love to preach as to how things should be, they are always unhappy, and they are always above their own laws. And yes, I hate them.

I hope this entertains someone. Either as stupid, ignorant, "right on" or whatever
    have a nice day.

    PEACE

I think there is enough ego (along with enough testosterone) in this thread to go around. [IMG]

Someone once told me that you have two choices when confronted with someone or something that bugs you or disagrees with you: you can attempt to be right or you can be kind. This thread, like so many on this BBS, is an example of the former.

Personally, I think you ALL suck!!! [IMG]

I don't know how conservative I really am, but I certainly don't lean to the left.

Nevertheless, I'm starting to wonder if maybe all of the liberals are right. If I'm not a liberal, maybe I really am just a bad guy.

    Case in point:

I've read with great interest the debate between RocketmanTex and Brian Kagy. What I saw was Brian Kagy making some very sound, intelligble points, and then I saw RMTEX take the same content, twist it around some, and then throw it back at Kagy.

After reading Brian's posts, I simply nodded my head in agreement, but when I read RMTEX's responses, I had this insatiable urge to hunt him down, drag him out into the street by his ears, and beat the **** out him like the punk ass b**** that he's acting like.

I had violent feelings brought on by the remarks of someone who insinuated their remarks were supposed to be comical.

    That's wrong.

I must be a bad person.
