Ugh. Individual freedom? Personal responsibility? These are just words... at least to the cabal running the party that claims to be made up of conservatives (and their enablers). The policies they've supported and the actions they've cheered put the lie to the rhetoric. The real definition of conservatism can change in an instant and completely depends on what benefits the people in charge of the Republican Party.
Which must be why conservatives in general give a much larger share of their income to charity than liberals
These defintions and your accurate comment on them point out one truth: Many "conservatives" want to view themselves as libertarian and liberals as socialists. This makes them feel good about themselves and explains why the definitions in the OP are so slanted and biased.
Based on this definition, all conservatives would be against taxation of any kind because that is for the collective interest of society. And as such, they would be against all forms of government of any kind since government needs funding and is formed to benefit the collective interest of the society. Basically, his definition suggests that conservatives are simply anarchists.
That's what I was coming to post. He has defined an anarchist. A definition (of sorts) a professor of mine had suggested, which I'm sure I've mentioned on this board before, goes: Liberals believe Man is fundamentally good, and Conservatives believe Man is fundamentally evil.
