George Carlin is absolutely my favorite from that list.

I think if not for Richard's drug problems and early death, his standup would be looked on just like any other comedian's. As it is, he's taken on an almost immortal status.

His problems let him leave a legacy behind, one that is hard to match.

George Carlin has been in the game for far too long, and been consistently funny, for him to not be ranked number 1, in my eyes.

    *puts on flame-r****dant suit*

    Let it rip, Pryor-lovers.

I don't think the 100 greatest was meant to be ranked. It's the 100 random greatest on that list with no one being #1 or #2. It's just the order they had to go in counting backwards and all.

Dave Chappelle at 43 eh? With the way he's doing, he'll rise up a lot higher. He might be the funniest guy out there right now.

    "I'm Rick James b****."

"Does Wayne Brady have to choke a b****?"

    "WHAT!? WHAT!? WHAT!? YEAH! OKAAAAY!"

    PURE GENIUS! HILARIOUS!

I agree that Chappelle will be a lot higher in a few years.

My question is what about Dat Phan?

It has to be random...except for Pryor being number one which I dont really have a problem with..

but....Bill Cosby should be top 5....Sam Kinison, Dave Chappelle, Dana Carvey, Henny Youngman, Redd Foxx, Dennis Miller and Dave Atell should be much higher than they are.

and how does Carlos Mencia and Billy D. not even make the list???

    and PLEASE!..Woody Allen is a top 5 comedian??....

Its like everyone at CC sat down and just decided to list out every comedian they could think of ,and then got lazy and decided that doing a true ranking would be too much work...

Of course you should be flamed. First of all, Pryor isn't even dead. Have you ever actually watched a Richard Pryor stand up show? How does an average comedian get a gig like that?

Redd Foxx and Andy Kaufman should be higher. Gallagher should actually be higher too. Sinbad should be shot.

"Put on your seatbelt...I'm gonna try something. I saw it in a cartoon but I think I can do it."

"A girl phoned me the other day and said .... "Come on over, there's nobody home." I went over. Nobody was home."

"Whatever happened to Preparations A through G?"

...and Cheech and Chong get no respect.

Pryor at number one is cool, but my list would have Bill Hicks at no further down than number two. Perhaps I'm not as well adjusted as Jeff, but I've never heard a better comedian. He not only made me laugh, he made me think.

I agree that Dana Carvey, Dave Chappelle, and Andy Kaufman should be higher.

I think Robin Williams and Billy Crystal should be higher, Williams should be top five IMO and Billy Crystal top 15.

    :D

    Yeah, who I gotta call!

Honestly Robert Kleine, Ray Romano, Albert Brooks, and 90 or so others would have a very hard time following George Wallace (# 93).

Asses I've busted on this list...

    Louis Anderson
    David Alan Grier
    Paul Rodriguez
    Tim Allen (at Spellbinders!)
    Kevin James

Chris Rock should be #2 because of his body of work, he keeps pumping out quality specials.

    Ellen should be #3

A few of my favorites that are missing...

    Chris Tucker
    Mitch Hedberg
    Carlos Mencia
    Pablo Francisco
    Kathleen Madigan
    Fatty Arbuckle
Larry The Cable Guy (Get ur done!)
    Shecky Green
    James Gregory
    T. Sean Shannon

Wanda Sykes should NOT be on this list or the next hundred.
