You asked for an illustration of what could be done differently. This team's only current needs are size in the frontcourt and shooting. Stone has had that available when he's been on the clock. He won't pull the trigger. He's passed on talent time and time again. Stone saved his job by getting the best coach available and allowing that coach to put his shape on the roster. But now the ball is in his court to improve things. Can he make any substantive move? I have my doubts.
Stone saved his job by drafting Sengun, Jabari, Tari, Cam and Amen and then signing FVV, Unc Green and Brooks and turning the team around in just 3 short years. He ain't losing his job over 2 low first rounders. Getting the best coach available is just one more good move he has done. He already improved things by getting Adams for next year. Whether he gets a backup center just for this season remains to be seen. The team was top 3 seed at one point when everyone was healthy.
A lot of the other parts he referenced were part of that deal (ie to acquire the 2nds and create the salary ballast)
If Stone does nothing, I am pretty sure Stone will rank among our worst GM's ever (according to the most fanatic Cluthfans posters). Until the summer anyway.
Should still be a top 8 team even with road games if everyone was healthy esp with emergence of Double Dragons Amen and Cam.
If you think that you clearly just hate Rafael Stone. The Rockets have already overachieved this season & are also flexible to get better I've disagreed with you before, but you're right about Stone's success here. The criticism of Stone here is so backwards its almost laughable. The same ppl criticizing him are the same ones saying we'd only win 20 games this year lol
Yup, there are challenges, and Ime is stubborn in his own way........and Stone is no saint either......those 2 long term, good entertainment ahead.
There's actually a decent backup center Rox can get for vet min or maybe just a bit over the vet min: Bismack Biyombo. Another guy I'd like to see them look at is Killian Hayes who just got released. Both these guys can't shoot but both are excellent defenders and Hayes might thrive on the bench where he can pass to Cam Whitmore and Aaron Holiday.
