The last three Rox seasons, not including this one, were arguably worse. They weren't good enough to make the playoffs, weren't bad enough to warrant a draft pick lower then 14. And had no clear path out of mediocrity. Now once things began to brighten, 60% of their potential viewing audience... Well, I'm sure you get my drift. You can call the last three seasons competitive if you want, but in my eyes those teams were just lovable losers. Who at their ceiling, could have been nothing more then the 9th seed in the west.
Obviously the past 3 years of the Rockets wasn't that enjoyable. A mediocre team with no real future. They still managed to finish each season with a winning record in a tough conference/division. They were "competitive" by definition. Playoffs or no playoffs finishing with a winning record is a competitive team in my books. What the Astros have done the past few seasons is a joke. They are the worse team in the History of Houston. Historically bad. I do believe they finally are turning things around and getting young talent in their minor league system. No way can you compare the Astros to the Rockets the past few seasons.
Astros past 3 seasons have left me apathetic towards them, unbearable to watch if I happen to accidentally flip to one of their games. Rockets past 3 seasons have kept me interested enough to keep tabs on them and most of the games competitive enough to watch the whole game. And the Rockets have been run better, Ed Wade was the antithesis of Morey. Jeff Luhnow will be a whole lot better but after Ed the only way is up. This is why I feel bad about the whole CSN deal, the Rockets are a better managed organization yet are getting the brunt of the PR backlash.
exactly. The astros just went downhill since their world series appearance. It hasn't been pretty since. The difference between the rox and the stros is the stros playoff hunt is pretty much done after the first 2 months where the rox had a chance until near the end of the season. Being over .500 in a hard Western conference, otherwise we'd be 6th seed in the east. I do hope the stros get better though and really turn it around soon since I do miss the astros being competitive.
Yall are looking at it with your "diehard sports fans" glasses. When your team wins more than it loses, to the average fan, that *is* considered competitive. The average fan doesnt look at the things that make most of us say "mediocrity treadmill". Gotta remember.....there are a lot more average fans out there than there are diehards like us.
WHY DON'T WE PICKET THE ASTROS HOME OPENER? I THINK IT'S A GREAT WAY FOR US TO SHOW EVERYONE HOW WE FEEL ABOUT THE ASTROS BLOCKING ROCKET FANS FROM HAVING ACCESS TO CSN THIS YEAR! SIGNING A PETITION IS A WASTE OF TIME
I just don't get that thought. Look at the history of the team. Look at the number of times the team went to the playoffs when Drayton owned the team compared to the number of playoff appearances before he owned the team. Drayton was the owner during the best 10 year stretch in franchise history...yet he was an awful owner? Very glad that you apparently didn't watch during the McMullen years.
I don't see how this shows the Astros are the driving force here. But let's say you are right and the Astros do hold the keys to this whole deal. If that is the case, Les is even dumber than I thought. Selling the rights to comcast without deals in place with other providers is one thing, if he really gave the Astros the key to making a deal for his own organization . . .well then that wouldn't be the Astros fault, that would be Alexanders fault
Depends on the sport. I think the average fan thinks if you're not a playoff team, you're not really all that good...no matter what your record is.
Well...on the surface, without knowing how the contracts are written, the Astros own 46% of the team. This is more than the Rockets own or Comcast owns. It would follow that they have a very large voice in this.
This is a new message from DirecTv. You can find it here: http://directvpromise.com/no-fan-should-be-sidelined/ CSN Houston Network Update Unfortunately, we have yet to be able to reach an agreement with the owners of CSN Houston that allows customers to choose whether they want to pay to see the games or not. We are ready and willing to have that discussion any time so we can begin providing this network. Until then, DIRECTV customers can still see Astros games on FOX, TBS, MLB Network and especially ESPN (which carries the season opener) or hear the games on Houston’s KTRH 740 AM, XM Radio and other regional radio carriers.
wow....that's interesting. I wonder if CSN will ever go for a situation where the subscribers get to choose if they want it and pay a little more.
I doubt it, they want to be on the extended basic tier. Which they should be. This is all about price though. If the price were lower, DirecTv and every other provider would've had a deal by now. This is the first message from the DirecTv side (other than the very generic statement they had on their site for months), and it doesn't sound good.
Somebody on an Astros site made a great point. If you look at the message from DirecTv, they don't have the radio station right. Could mean they've been sitting on this press release for a while.
I am tired of this stuff. My hate towards Comcast has grown strong each day. Thank you Comcast for nothing. The comcast's motto should be "Nothing everyday" Keep it up because I want to see what fans has to say after 2 years or so.
Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen Doubt it, but Astros pres predicted deal 4-1. MT @Bunda713: @Jonathan_Feigen Any chance Rockets get shown regularly on non Comcast this yr?
