Renting a modem is a scam. Search ebay for the Motorola Surfboard 6141. Seller named modem-amodems accepts bids for $65-$70. Instead of paying $7/money has for a modem, own your own that pays for itself in 9 months.

Once you receive it, call comcasts activation line. Tell them the MacID, and you're done. I haven't rented a modem in 2 years. Should never have rented one

I think it's 300GB, but they haven't exactly come up with a replacement cap yet for the 250GB. I just remember them going away from the 250GB cap to replace it with something else.

I considered doing this several years back, but was told it wasn't an option if you have digital voice as part of your package. Haven't researched it since then to see if that has changed or if I was misinformed. Has anyone done it recently who has digital voice as part of their package?

what you have is an EMTA (modem with built in digital phone). When I worked at Time Warner cable, what we did is that if you bought your own modem, we would prevent your EMTA from having internet access and send a signal to it so that it is strictly used for phone and then just waive the fee, then you would plug in your modem that you bought in another cable jack (or same one if you used a splitter ) and that would be your modem for actual internet.

Not sure if Comcast does it this way.

Also, if you have home phone, I highly recommend using "OOMA" . It's bad ass. My parents have it . Comcast phone is rather expensive

Really the only reason we have the home phone is because the package promotion when we renewed for all 3 was cheaper with it than what we were paying previously just for internet and cable.

A little bit faster for me both up and down. I can't tell which Comcast account I have. It just says "High speed internet" on my bill.

Sounds good to me! Does anyone know how to find out exactly which Comcast speed tier we have in our Comcast accounts information?

In your account go to "my services tab and at the bottom click customize your internet package and it will tell you your package and what you can upgrade to. Don't do it through the website though. Call them and you can get a better deal.
