I don't care about the cap, which I doubt I'll ever hit. They did just up my rate though when my 'promotional rate' expired. The won't offer me the same rate being offered to new customers right now. Not very customer friendly to treat non-customers better than loyal customers. So now I have to hop back to U-Verse for a year.

Probably never. Google Fiber has cut their staff by 50%. They were expected to have around 2.5 million subscribers by now but they barely have 250K. They have put all jobs in their current states on hold, and you can erase the next cities on the map. They are quietly tapping out, but they are looking into WiFi by placing transmitters on top of cell towers than will give you the same speeds. Houston will never see Google Fiber unless the cell tower transmitter trials work, just trust me on this. I work on every one of their projects and Houston isn't even a city they want to work with due to all of the overhead lines, the city council, the laws, etc. They do not feel it's even worth the money to invest here.

Is the low number of signups due to the incredibly slow rollout? People in Austin were excited when it was announced, but I think most have given up hope of ever getting it unless they live in 78704.

    Classic Comcast....

Honestly...not a huge deal. Exceeding a TB is tough, but given that it's tough, it comes off as extremely unnecessary.

I've wanted to cut the cord for a while and go with Vue/Sling/etc., but the lack of Rockets viewing is keeping me from doing it. I'm just tired of Comcasts antics.

Very, very low number of signups and their door to door campaign has very few interested in the long term, high cost for bandwidth most families do not need, new competition from Uverse. TWC and Comcast with their GB plans for those who actually need it, high cost for infrastructure and the lack of help and yes votes with the expansion cities and their city councils and officials. We were working on the rollout in Raleigh NC and it's now on hold, maybe permanent and they have millions of dollars worth of material already on site the local utilities are now being forced to warehouse and hopefully sell at discounts due to this.

Bullshit. That's comcast propaganda. This goes after cord cutters and people who use streaming services. You can also throw gamers in that group too.

interesting. i never got an email but when i went to the link to check my usage, it says I currently have a 1 TB cap on my usage. wtf? luckily it appears i am not hitting it yet so I guess I'm ok with it. But once the kids get old enough to want to stream their own shows, I may be in trouble.

    It's a shame Austin couldn't expand coverage.

I remember an Economist article ages ago promoting the idea that wireless and VOIP would disrupt mobile carriers because a company like Skype didn't need to invest hundreds of millions into wire.

Maybe floating WiFi balloons around the world isn't an insane idea after all.

I did not enjoy having Comcast but after moving to TWC in a different city, I can say that their online xfinity product is really good. TWC's streaming website and iPhone app are both garbage.

    You got that right.

I have two teenage boys in the house, and we watch a lot of Netflix and Hulu, and there is a LOT of internet access going on all the time. I looked, and it said my usage average over the last three months was almost 2TB per month.

Looks like I will be signing up for the unlimited plan. And canceling HBO to help pay for it.

    Yay.

Email says I used 651gb on average the last few months. Which basically means that cutting the cord is no longer an option for me.

I was just looking to see what streaming 4k content would do to your data usage. From what I have seen online it takes somewhere between 4 GB and 7 GB per hour to stream 4k content. They are getting this in place before 4k or UHD are in most households. The new PS4 and Xbox both stream 4k content and 4k tvs are getting cheaper by the day. This may seem like a lot of data to use now but maybe not in the near future.....

This really is a big deal and a step in the wrong direction. Anyone who says 'eh, 1 TB isn't that much' is falling into their trap. They will whittle down that limit to a point where half the people are paying 'overage' fees every month.

Highly doubt anyone with roommates would even hit anywhere near 1TB a month. You would need to do a lot of downloading and streaming daily just to reach that 1 TB mark for a month.

I have one roommate and we average 600GB a month, when I used to have two we were always over/under 900GB.
Also, just look at the other posts in the thread.

I'm glad people like us aren't affected by the data caps. That doesn't mean its not a problem. Unless you are one of those people that "have nothing to hide" and don't care about privacy overreach.

    This is the long con.
Let's go back to this thread in 4 years when the data cap won't budge and YET the rates will (upwards).

Well you're probably part of the 1% of heavy users. That much data is really hard to use up even among 3 people.

I average 720GB a month and I'm a very heavy user with access to fiber (AT&T Gigapower). I wonder if the Comcast data meter is inaccurate.
