I seriously don't see . .. even if he was healthy .. .indy could have kept him 28 mill . . . Their defense and everywhere else is not superbowl level Texans are so much better. . . . . He is 36 . . . no what you spend that money on him I mean . . it might be the right thing to do morally or PR wise but business wise. . .you have his replacement. . why spend the 28 million I had a question. Which is what I always wondered about contract restructuring. If payton's original contract had him making 21 million roster bonus but restructured so that 7 million from last year was deferred into his bonus Would he just be screwed? Or would he get his money. When I hear that people are restructuring a contract I wonder if the player taking a risk . . . because he can be cut I want to restructure you 9 mill contract this year so I pay you 1 million and then the other 8 million next year. . . once it is done. . . i cut you at the end of the season and save 8 million . . . . how does that work? I was trying to make a point. Folks dismiss Schaub's injury as if it was nothing at all. It was a serious injury that can't be so easily dismissed. He'll probably be fine but we won't know until he has to plant that foot for a pass or scramble out of the pocket.
This saga's going to get interesting, and hopefully we get news quick about exactly what Manning's looking for. We know what teams are falling over to call his agent...but what does Peyton want? What are his salary requirements? He just saw $28M disappear...but he's not exactly hurting for cash. Is he willing to take a small one year check to stick it to the Colts with a contender? How much control does he want over the offense? Can't ignore this. Will he want to bring along his own "assistant" OC? Will he ask for Reggie Wayne to be packaged in? I do expect Peyton will go somewhere as the chiseled in stone starter. I can't fathom him being a part of a QB competition, so the new team will either need a current starter happy to sit down or be moved. Is weather (outdoor stadiums) a factor? Is the division a factor? If he wants to WIN...I don't think the AFC East, AFC North, NFC North or NFC East are good choices. Too much of a dog fight each year. Personally, I think the Cardinals fit most of the above...though they would still be darkhorse contenders. I also like Seattle...but their WR crop is lame. KC should be included. And the interest would have to be reciprocated...but I could see honest interest by Manning in Houston. He would have the added bonus of already knowing the division inside and out. But I still simply do not believe that Manning's arm is recovered enough that Houston would toss Schaub aside or that Manning would be willing to adapt to Kubiak's system rather than VV. It's much easier to dismiss than Manning's damaged nerve and atrophied triceps. Especially when Schaub's updates have been glowing and we're talking about hampering one QB's throwing arm vs another's mobility.
Too many times in sports, people remember players of what they USE to be instead of what they NOW.... Peyton in the past was a dominant player, but after surgery and missing a year off... just don't know.. Have to learn from the past and the one player I can remember in that situation was Joe Namath.. T_Man
