remember last year on the cbs show when boomer said that peyton may just end up being the next dan marino, great stats but no real success? The same show that Dan is on two seats away from him? Oh man that look Marino gave him when he said that was priceless. I wish I still had that clip hopefully someone has it in their archives to post here.
Did you see Manning's reaction after Idiot Kicker missed the FG? He kind of laughed and said "he missed it." Not because he thought it was funny, but it was almost like he was expecting something to go wrong. Manning was expecting to lose that game. Not good.
yeah..dungy very clearly said it. i think they were shocked. they have a reliable kicker...and he didn't just miss it...he MISSED it. it was so wide right it was almost wide left.
Things like the interception-turned-incomplete. To quote Joey Porter: I'm not sure a player saying that is so wise - a fine might be headed his way - but as a fan, it feels like that sometimes. I think Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy are class acts and I have nothing against them personally. But do any of you honestly think that's not an interception if the team isn't the Colts and the game isn't in the RCA Dome? The NFL to an extent is having many of the problems the NBA has had in recent years. The NBA has focused so much on individuals in their nationwide marketing - Shaq, Kobe, Wade and others from big markets - that they struggle to hook viewers when two good teams play like Detroit and San Antonio. ESPN gave more hype to the "LeBron-Kobe showdown" the other night than they did to the Pistons and Spurs. This year, the NFL has given so much hype to Manning, James, Harrison and the glamour of that offense that the well-rounded teams are easily forgotten. Along those same lines, the Colts got the USC treatment. By the end of November ESPN TV and radio personalities were already ranking the Colts among the greatest teams of all-time and debating Peyton Manning's place in history... before he had even reached a Super Bowl, much less won one. All I ask is for media types to wait until all the games have been played before starting the historical comparisons. Apparently that's a difficult task... so from my perspective, I like cheering for these media-created super teams to lose so that hopefully writers learn from their mistakes.
great points, Cat!!! excellent post! and what's funny is...neither of these teams won. the colts lose in their first playoff game...and USC loses in the Rose Bowl. they're ordained as historical teams before they prove it on the field...and then neither prove it on the field.
Exactly. My guess is that Salisbury and his crew might be a little more reserved in his Week 10 hype next time around... and that's better for everyone. That is, unless the Texans draft VY and appear headed for the playoffs with Vince as a rookie... in that case, the historical comparisons might be acceptable.
Peyton the Wus is getting hammered by the media. What a loser. The comments after the game just blew me away. He was speachless, um, this and um, that. To throw his offensive line under the bus is inexcuseable for a QB (any QB). Glad the Colts lost even though the League was doing everything in their power to give the Colts a win. If the Steelers passing game is the same that we saw in the second half of the Colts they will be in trouble in Denver. As long as Big Ben can mix in the pass like they did in the first half they will have a good chance of playing in Detroit. Good win to a team that deserved to win that game! Did I mention that Peyton is a Wus!!!
I'm glad they're out too, but you have to admit that the rest of the teams are boring. Super Bowl XL! Broncos vs Seahawks! Boring.
I agree that Manning looked like a whiny wuss but I wasn't rooting for the Stealers and won't be. One of my earliest NFL memories was of Houston and the great Earl Cambell being robbed out of the Superbowl by the Stealers. Since then have had to endure seasons of that arrogant a-hole Cowher making Moon and co. look bad. Pittsburgh played a great game but no I will not be rooting for them.
Not to me. I'll be much more entertaining by the Steelers and Panthers, for example, than the Colts and Panthers. Remember the last time there was a Super Bowl that many said was boring? It was two years ago... New England and Carolina... arguably the most entertaining Super Bowl of all-time. The remaining four are all excellent teams and entertain me quite a bit... but the public as a whole just doesn't know it yet because ESPN has spent the last five months talking Colts 24/7.
Anyone here Joey Porter's comments? VERY strong words for the refs, basically blatantly accusing them of being involved in a conspiracy to help the Colts win .....he really went off hes stupid if he gets suspended for next weekend's game
How does my knowledge of the rules look now? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs05/news/story?id=2294309 Polamalu overturned interception the wrong call Associated Press NEW YORK -- The NFL said the referee made a mistake: Troy Polamalu caught the ball. The league acknowledged Monday that referee Pete Morelli erred when he overturned on replay Polamalu's interception of a Peyton Manning pass Sunday in the playoff game between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Mike Pereira, the league's vice president of officiating, said in a statement that Morelli should have upheld the call, made with 5:26 left in Pittsburgh's win over the Colts. After the reversal, the Colts went on to score a touchdown and a 2-point conversion, cutting the Steelers' 21-10 lead to 21-18. That led to a wild final few minutes and Pittsburgh clinched its win only when the Colts' Mike Vanderjagt missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt. On the play, Polamalu made a diving catch of Manning's pass, tumbled with it in his hands and got up to run. When he did, he fumbled the ball, then recovered. Colts coach Tony Dungy challenged and Morelli ruled Polamalu had not completed the catch. About a dozen TV and scoreboard replays indicated otherwise. Had the call stood, the Steelers would have had the ball at their own 48 with an 11-point lead. "The definition of a catch -- or in this case an interception -- states that in the process of making a catch a player must maintain possession of the ball after he contacts the ground," Pereira said. "The initial call on the field was that Troy Polamalu intercepted the pass because he maintained possession of the ball after hitting the ground. The replay showed that Polamalu had rolled over and was rising to his feet when the ball came loose. He maintained possession long enough to establish a catch. Therefore, the replay review should have upheld the call on the field that it was a catch and fumble. "The rule regarding the performing of an act common to the game applies when there is contact with a defensive player and the ball comes loose, which did not happen here." The NFL almost never makes public the result of its reviews, although it did three years ago, when Pereira said officials should have called pass interference against San Francisco on the final play of a wild-card game with the New York Giants. The correct call would have given New York a second chance to kick a game-winning field goal in a 39-38 loss. After the game, Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter said of the ruling: "I know they wanted Indy to win this game; the whole world loves Peyton Manning. But come on, man, don't take the game away from us like that." NFL spokesman Greg Aiello had no comment on Porter's statement. In the past, players who have made such statements have been subject to fines.
somebody got knocked the **** out. somebody just got peeeeeeee ownies. everybody knew that was an INT. David Carr knew that was an INT. Reggie Bush knew that was an INT. Vince Young knew that was an INT. Corky from Life Goes on knew that was an INT.
