Certainly true - they need talent upgrades all over the place. I'm not suggesting McCoy can do it all himself - that's specifically what he's not. Manning can take random WRs and turn them into probowl-quality players; Colt can't. But with the right guys around him, he could be an excellent player in the mold of Gannon - I actually think that's the perfect example of his "upside".
Manning can not make receivers into probowlers. He has had players like Harrison, Wayne, Edgarrin James, Addai and Marshall Faulk throughout his career. All quarterbacks need somebody great to throw to, to achieve great numbers.
Do you think those guys would put up the numbers they do if they didn't have guys like Reggie Wayne getting double covered. Its no coincidence that receivers who play opposite of Moss tend to put up bigger numbers.
Just look at guys like Austin Collie who stepped right into the lineup and was on a 1000 yard receiving pace. Or take their latest injury - Dallas Clark, superstar TE. Replace him with some guy named Jacob Tamme who no one had high expectations for, and suddenly he's putting up the same basic numbers as Clark was. The offense shuffles personnel in and out every year and doesn't miss a beat.
The one professional athlete I actually know. I'll admit, that if he is your most productive WR, you probably won't have a very potent passing attack.
Who was Marvin Harrison before Peyton Manning? Who was James after Peyton Manning? Faulk's only year with Peyton was Peyton's rookie year. You work hard and run good routes, Peyton will make you look great.
LOL. I sense this will end badly for you. Manning is a king-maker. No one doubts this. Well, except you, apparently.
Are you suggesting that Wayne is more valuable to the team than Manning? Since they drafted Manning, whoever they plugged in at WR have all been very productive. Andre Johnson commands double teams but how come guys like Gaffney, Bradford, Davis, Walter, and Jones haven't been able to put up big numbers opposite him?
I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that it doesn't matter how great you are as a qb, you can't do it without great receivers. If your receivers can't get open, you are going to look like a turd.
Collie, Tamme, Garcon, Stokely, Pollard, etc. Manning being so good makes them look better. Regardless of who is on the other side of the field.
Go away you snitching fairy........you are dead to me....disappear like the sniveling little rat you are... You are so desperate for my attention...."oh, DD, oh DD, look over here, look at me" Sad....so sad..... DD
On virtually every play, there will be at least one receiver that gets open - or open enough. The difference between Manning and other QBs is that he (a) knows how to quickly identify who that guy is and (b) get the ball to him in a tight window. Thus, he makes average players put up pro-bowl stats.
