I eat one cup of Bran Buds cereal and 1 gallon of water throughout the day and eat PLENTY of fruit throughout the day... My colon is flushed well each day with that regimen.
the only truly healthy way to get all the fiber and nutrients you need is to eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables every day. keeps your colon, heart, brain, everything healthy so that you don't need a bunch of vitamins, medications, supplements, or psyllium husk. if everyone in america ate 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day, we'd probably be one of the healthiest, least medicated countries in the world rather than the sickest.
I am 22 and I had a colonoscopy back in march. I was just having the runs very frequently and have stomach pains. Eventually it got so bad I had no confidence to go anywhere from home and work. I went to the doc had the procedure done and he said I have IBS. He said to set plenty of fiber which I have been doing. However, I still have a psychological problem with it. I get into modes to where I feel like I could have some digestive problems and I wont go anywhere. Which makes it tough on my family and friends. I read online that after being diagnosed with IBS most doctors send you to a shrink to help you deal with the psychological effect of it all. He didn't recommend me to anyone. I am debating on whether or not I should see one. I also read online that they prescribe some form of depression and anxiety medication to help patients with the effects but I'm not depressed. What do y'all think other than cool story bro? So I can say first hand that digestive health is a big deal
Same boat man. It's tough. I've struggled through college largely because of it. After 6 years, I'm finally graduating on the 15th. There's definitely a psychological aspect to it. I was diagnosed with IBS-C initially. After about ten doctors, I was finally given the diagnosis of Systemic Mastocytosis which is more treatable and seems to be more in line with my symptoms. Not that life is great now, I still have a lot of the same problems, plus nervous system issues due to an over abundance of mast cells. IBS is kind of a unique diagnosis. Once all other common bowel disorders are ruled out, GI doctors will diagnose you with it. If you've been diagnosed with IBS, there may be more to it or a more pure diagnosis. SIBO and Systemic Mastocytosis are not widely known amongst GI's, but their symptoms are very similar to IBS. I had both in combination. In the end, I'm lucky. One of the best GI doctors in the country has an office about 15 minutes away from me in OKC. Without him, I'd still be in the dark about what was wrong with me and that's a hopeless feeling that I felt for a good 5 years. Wouldn't wish that on anybody.
I feel for you man. Did they give you meds? I know people with IBS, it sucks. I know people who take antidepressants for it, but it's not because they have stress. It works for them. http://www.helpforibs.com/footer/medications.asp Also going to a nutrient specialist might help. I've got issues myself, I take probiotics and have a high fiber diet. So a change in diet might help.
No. They have not given me any meds. Which kind of starts making me second guess the doctor. I thought that maybe I am allergic to something that I eat on a regular basis but do not know it. In the past I have been a guy on the go and upbeat, but this stuff will definitely bring you down to earth. Are shrinks usually the doctors that prescribe the antidepressants, also does most insurance companies (Blue Cross) usually cover that sort of thing? Thanks a lot for the help btw, sometimes it feels like I am on an island. Its glad to have other people to discuss it.
If your symptoms are really bad, then they need to give you meds. they have specific meds for IBS, if that works, then you probably have it. as mentioned in the article, antidepressants for IBS is completely different than for depression. I believe a regular doctor can prescribe you that. Go to an allergist to see what allergies you have. That's good for food and pollen. Also, have you tried the normal over the counter stuff like prilosec? it helps with tons of digestive problems.
I have not tried prilosec or anything like that. I'm gonna check it out and see what it does for me. My symptoms are not too bad anymore as my diet regimen has changed. It is definitely the psychological part of it more than the physical ability of dealing with it.
I went to the emergency room about 2 weeks ago with severe abdominal pain thinking it might be my appendix. After a few cat scans they said there was too much inflammation in my intestines to see it so they went in to take it out. Nothing wrong with it. So now I have my first colonoscopy tomorrow. The doctor said I could possibly have IBS or Chrons disease. Sigh. How do y'all deal with it for those that have it? Just toke my first dose of suprep and damn the taste just sucks.
I get a ferret to perform a weekly cleaning or two. It gets the job done. Only downside is the monthly expense of buying new ones. Like they say, colonliness is next to godliness.
I do this regularly. The first you take this you'll notice how dirty your colon is... your sh8t will look like sausages wrapped in plastic.
It's confirmed, Chrons disease. Going to be on meds the rest of my life. Lucky for me it can be controlled but unfortunately no cure. They've put me on low fiber diet which is weird because before then I was trying to increase my fiber intake thinking that was the problem.
No one should have to live that way. Have you tried juicing to give the GI track a break and strengthen it by juicing, especially cabbage juice.
