In hindsight the call might seem obvious but I'm just speculating on if it didn't work.

I am with shroopy and Sam. The 2 pointer was far and away the % play for Boise.

1st, the entire 4th quarter and OT Boise's defense showed little resistance to OU. Be it part of OU figuring their offense (what works) out better and/or OU being much deeper (this is why fatigue is not equivalent), it was getting too easy for them score.

Basically had Boise kept going to more OTs they would have had to rely on OU's gaffes to win, because they no longer could stop them on their own. You would rather try to win on your own good plays, than hope for a mistake.

In fact the thought had crossed me with the last second 4th quarter TD that Boise should go for 2. After the 1st OT events, when OU scored on a simple run on their 1st play and Boise needed all possible plays to score on a 4th down play, I thought it was pretty obvious to the level headed Boise had to go for it.

On your point about speculation/conventional wisdom. I agree with your premise. I see events all the time coaches bumble because they don't understand basic probability. [One of my pet peeves is coaches not going for 2 after scoring in the 4th quarter being down by 15. Their rationale is leaving you down by 8 you only need 1 score, but if you go for 2 and miss you are down by 9 and need 2 more scores. But in truth you have to get a 2 pointer on way or the other, at least if you know you failed earlier in the 4th it gives you more time to manage the game differently]. The coaches I respect do what gives their team the best chance to win regardless of fan reaction and conventional wisdom. That is what being a leader is all about.

I agree. Plus, this was very similar to the Sugar Bowl last year when West Virginia pulled off a fake punt to get the first down at the end of the game so they could run out the clock. Another very gutsy play that paid off but it was clear that Georgia was running all over them at the end and they had to gamble or else they'd lose.

Just a heads up: They are replaying this game on Fox Sports Pacific right now. In Houston it's on Comcast Digital 122. It's worth seeing again IMO.

Read that Johnson's (Boise's QB) wedding was being threatened by numerous people because it is an interracial marriage. Johnson asked his girlfriend (Boise's cheerleader) right after the game.

Yes, there was a thread on the a week or two ago. The wedding went on without any problems though. Stupid people.

Ian Johnson is a running back. Zabransky, who is now a Texan, was the QB.

He made mistakes in this game, but Boise Sate was impressive in that they never let those mistakes stop their gameplan. I know he went undrafted, but I like having a guy with that attitude on the Texans. I can't wait to see him get a few snaps for us.

Zabransky throws the stupidest pick in the history of the BCS and lets OU score, Boise's coach saves the day. And y'all want that guy? Nothing worse than a player who thinks he is better than he is. See Rex Grossman...

And the threats on Ian Johnson weren't actually racial. Rather people were upset that an ugly person with no money was marrying an attractive person with her entire future ahead of her.
