All I know is there is a lot of **** being talked for two teams that are still in the tournament. It seems like there are a few too many fans out there who turned off the Duke-Kentucky game before Laettner hit the shot, stopped watching the Oilers-Bills game to get out of the house, or left the country with the Rockets down 3 games to 1 to the Suns. I'm not saying some of the talk isn't legit, but damn, some people are putting themselves in position to get serious FOOT IN MOUTH disease if things go a certain way. Carry on with the pissing contest....
I've been nothing but a gentleman in this thread. heyp, they screwed up on Townsend, I got it. He doesn't have to have that chip on his shoulder though.
gr8-1 do you have anything meaningful to add to this thread? I would think that a highly educated UT student/alum would be more than capable of having a discussion regarding sports, without having to get into pissing matches. How old are you?
Who am I in a pissing match with? You're the one that brought up Chris Simms, out of the blue. Have I said that "Rice doesn't belong on the field with UT" or anything like that?" Have I said "owls down?" Even after UT beat Miami, I didn't feel the need to come on here and toot UT's horn. Hell, even after they beat FSU, I didn't do so.
I was joking about the Chris Simms thing. Of course it went over your head that I was being sarcastic, so you countered with your trite "UT rejected you" line that you seem to care about more than I do, the sad rejectee. Then you mentioned something about penis envy from the horns down gesture. I don't really know if Rice players would have penis envy towards UT. A&M, yes. Rice? I don't know about that.
I thing gestures like that reek of penis envy. Why not just pump your fist in the air? Rice has been a solid team over the years. I have alot of respect for Graham and the way Rice plays ball. I've been nothing but respectful towards them. All this while bigtexx and trader Jorge had hammered on UT for whatever reason.
Dude, that was high-larious. He says, "Yeah, my gf was getting a manicure/pedicure, and, ya know, I'm whipped, so....." Townsend is funny as hell, good guy to drink a few brews with.
Oh yes. Aardsma? And how did Rice get him? He transferred from Penn State because his parents moved to the Woodlands and he wanted to be close to his parents. Pure genius of Wayne Graham to lure his parents just to get the kid. Absolute genius.
Then I guess Rice was lucky that Herce got injured? Rice should change their name to the 4-leaf Clovers with all the luck they have had in the last 8 years.
RIET, check out his stats from Penn State his freshman year. He went 3-5 with a 4.39 ERA. He has shown a HUGE improvement since then. Probably just lucky though, no coaching staff could have helped that guy. This was a perfect example of Rice's mastery of teaching pitching. Thanks for bringing it up. Keep talking RIET, I'm starting to get a kick out of this.
All the luck in the last 8 years? And how many College World Series games (let alone titles) have they won? Give me a break. Rice definitely should win it all this year because those two hosses are just awesome. However, you make it sound if this is some dynasty that's been built up through intricate recruiting and strategic coaching; some formula based plan to create a juggernaut. College Baseball recruiting is a crapshoot, especially when you can give out only 11.7 scholarships. The fact they have 2, 3 dominant starters with an ace reliever on the staff is luck. Tell me the last time any team in college has a pitching staff with 3 or 4 potential first round picks all on one team. Good luck because you wont find that.
Yes, it's all Wayne Graham and that's why he throws 97 mph. A lot of kids develop naturally from 18-21. Here's an excerpt from Billy Wagner: By the time he was drafted, Wagner was consistently throwing 97 mph .
You don't see the slightest coincidence that Rice has all these great pitchers? My point is that the coaching staff at Rice does an incredible job with the people they bring in. Look at Stephen Herce's stats from high school. Absolutely nothing impressive at all. He was an all-american last year and shut out LSU in the super regional. Wade Townsend was "wild" in high school. Niemann wasn't highly recruited. Aardsma went from being a very average pitcher at Penn State to being one of the top closers in college baseball. Justin Crowder was VERY average at TCU before transferring to Rice for his senior year, where he went on to have an ERA of 2.00 and only had one loss all year last season. Rice knows how to develop pitching, plain and simple. I feel that if you had a better knowledge of Rice's program this would be very obvious to you, and you would stop with all the "lucky" garbage.
