I went ahead and quoted you right there. I would like some insight as to why they would defeat Alabama. I don't doubt they could, but I would like to know which aspects of the Longhorns offense or defense would lead them over Alabama. Personally I haven't seen more than a few clips of Texas this year, yet I did see both of Alabama's. The points that Alabama's D and running game are very strong and arguably better than a Texas (or Florida) are valid, in my opinion. I would love to see Texas versus Alabama, and it might be too early in the year to even discuss a fantasy matchup. Maybe this can be an interesting discussion after Texas plays OU? I'm just not a big believer in the "trust me they're better" hometown lingo.
By the end of the season, Alabama might be better than UT. It wouldn't surprise me. A lot depends on how Greg McElroy develops. Alabama's defense is stellar, but it isn't any better than Florida's. UF is a tough matchup for you guys because they have more playmaking ability on offense. The SEC championship could end up being the real championship game. I hope it's a re-match.
Texas offense: 390 rush yards 716 pass yards 1106 total yards Bama offense: 543 rush yards 471 pass yards 1014 total yards Bama's run offense is very good, definitely better than Texas and maybe Florida's like you said. But Texas' passing game is unarguably better, of course Bama is breaking in a new QB, but that is definitely one aspect of the offense that is better. While Bama's D is nasty, you have to acknowledge that Texas' D is very good as well. Texas shut out Wyoming last week (all 10 points were off of special teams turnovers). Bama's D-Line is probably better right now since UT is breaking in 3 new guys, Of course Texas hasn't played anyone while Bama has already had a Top 10 opponent in VTech (even though I think they're overrated every year) but the rest of Bama's schedule is cake except for LSU. Texas will still have to play OU, Ok St., KU, and Mizzou. I would definitely like to see a UT/Bama matchup as well though.
These reasons are why it's just premature to compare these schools head to head. If discounting Alabama's opponent in Virginia Tech is open for discussion, then I think the point is fairly clear that the competition UF and UT have played is far inferior, thus impossible to definitively proclaim that either is "better" than Alabama. Statistics are skewed with the level of competition (but hey, at least UT played FBS opponents, unlike UF). Let's wait a few weeks, but one more thing: Bama still has Houston Nutt's Perennial Chokers (ranked ABOVE LSU for the moment). Things I want to see: UT win out. Alabama over UF in the SEC Championship Game. UT versus Alabama in Pasadena.
Oh yeah... of course, we'll have to wait and see. Like I said earlier in this thread, comments like those from me are strictly homerism.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4469206 LOL....Terrelle Pryor declaring that OSU should have beaten USC by "two or three touchdowns. Easy, man". Yeah, okay.
In truth, if he had made a play or two instead of stinking up the joint so badly, they might have. His opening INT (the equivalent of a pick-6) was horrific and he stunk up the joint totally when Ohio State's offense had a chance to put the game away. If OSU had decent QB play, I could have seen them winning by 10+ points. But Pryor killed them. He let his team down. I don't know about the "easy" part.
