That was a wild finish, for sure. Hard to believe a true freshman was the hero in a game of that magnitude.
For a few minutes in the 2nd half after ND took the lead, I felt like I wanted them to win the game. Just like with Gerry Faust (if you're old enough to remember him), I want Weiss to win just enough games to stay as head coach because ND will NEVER contend for a national championship with him in the saddle. If Weiss is fired, they might end up hiring a great coach. I don't want that to happen.
normally I would root against Michigan anytime, but the exception is weiss/claussen, cant stand either of em. faust is a local guy from here in dayton and actually went to UD, where I went. he was a heck of a football coach back in the day at moeller in cincy from what i'm told.
This has been as good of a first two weeks of college football as I can remember. Coogs really impressive.
While I agree I do not like Weis, I did think the ball hit OOB on the fumble with 1 sec left, which would have given ND another play. And I am glad that ND will never win anything without a coach that can coach defense (i.e. no Weis). But honestly, you will have all this ND tv coverage and all their fans being smug and arrogant whether they go 8-4 and overrated or are 13-0 and actually dominant on both sides. The fans will still be douches and the announcers will be all over them in both situations, and if they will driven down our throats in either situation, I would rather them be actually dominant to some extent.
This may be hard to believe, but back then the hiring of a new coach at ND was an even bigger deal than it is now. I heard the story about Faust's record at Moeller HS (and how the ONLY job he would ever leave there to take was ND) so many times, I was sick to my stomach. His first season I wanted them to lose every game. Sometime in his 2nd year, I concluded he was in over his head and wanted them to go 7-4 every year. I've heard stuff about Weiss and, yes, I think he's an arrogant jerk that is hard to like. But I want him on the sidelines at ND to ensure mediocrity.
