You Cowboy fans should be beyond this moral victory stuff. Y'all should be winning these games by now under Gundy. As far as UT's running game, I wouldn't exactly be proud of that. That was more scheme than OSU's rushing defense. UT went empty sets a lot because of the way OSU was defending UT. Texas is winning the national championship this year because they have the complete package.
Maybe so, but you can't just look at these numbers in a vacuum. Texas ran only 56 plays while averaging nearly 79 plays a game. A big part of that was due to Texas scoring twice on D, and Mack historically taking a very conservative offensive approach after establishing a huge lead. The three returned INTs yielded 139 return yards, which the offense could not have gained offensively. That is, it didn't help the offense that the defense was so selfish.
Texas is.. #1 in Total Defense (based on yards per play) #3 in Total Defense (based on yards per game) #1 in Run Defense #5 in Pass Eficiency Defense #2 in Interceptions #2 in Turnovers
Don't forget defensive scoring. The Texas Defense/STs have combined for 9 or 10 touchdowns - that's 63 or 70 pts scored as well - and probably ranks #1 in the country in that as well.
http://bcsguru.blogspot.com/2009/10/revolution-was-televised-on-abc.html The Revolution Was Televised on ABC 1453. 1644. 1917. And now, Halloween 2009. Like the Byzantine, Ming and Romanov empires, all good things must come to an end. Such was the case for the Trojan Dynasty that has ruled the Pac-10 since 2002. In retrospect, it was easy to see that this was a rebuilding year for USC. It lost most of its defensive stalwarts, including an entire linebacking corps that went among the first 38 picks in the NFL draft. It lost its star quarterback, who now hot dogs it for the New York Jets. It even lost its offensive coordinator to a rival Pac-10 school. But because it's USC, it was assumed that it'd go on like business as usual ... until Saturday night, when the Oregon Ducks formally pronounced the fin de siecle with a resounding quack. Since Pete Carroll's arrival in 2001, the Trojans have never been on the business end of a beatdown ... until Saturday night. Oregon's 47-20 victory was by far the worst loss in the Carroll Era (they have lost by double digits just once previously, by 11 to Notre Dame in 2001). It was also the most points the Trojans have ever allowed under Carroll (and the most since 1996). The loss to Oregon effectively ends USC's bid for a short ride to Pasadena - either for the Rose Bowl or the BCS title game. The Trojans, of course, are still very much alive for a BCS bowl bid, possibly the Fiesta, but they won't win the Pac-10 this year. The shame is that while Oregon will go on and claim the Rose Bowl bid, it almost certainly has no chance of claiming a spot in the BCS title game, despite playing better than anyone in the country at the moment. The Ducks, after a difficult season-opening loss at Boise State, have ruled the Pac-10 the way USC used to, outscoring their five conference foes by a score of 208-58. Meanwhile, Iowa's BCS title hopes are alive and well despite yet another shaky performance. Some voters, however, are bound to elevate the Hawkeyes on their ballots based on that deceiving 42-24 final score over Indiana. But ask yourself this: Is there any doubt which team is better, has played better, and has played better competition? If Iowa were to meet Oregon on a neutral field next week, who would be a double-digit favorite? It's not Iowa. And the BCS is most definitely not heaven. Projected BCS Standings: 1. Florida, 2. Alabama, 3. Texas, 4. Iowa, 5. TCU, 6. Boise State, 7. Cincinnati, 8. Oregon, 9. LSU, 10. Penn State, 11. Georgia Tech, 12. USC, 13. Ohio State, 14. Pittsburgh, 15. Utah.
Sorry, but OSU didn't ever have a chance to win this game. From the opening kick, it was clear who the better team is. I love the "it's not them, it's us" justification for getting your ass kicked. Texas kicked OSU's butt all over the field, period...and in your house.
I'm not so sure about this. With their schedule - and with Arizona still remaining - Oregon becomes the top 1 loss team in the list. Granted, two of Iowa, Texas, and the SEC-teams would have to lose, but I think Oregon still has a very real shot here. Iowa could lose any game, but in particular, Ohio State. The SEC is a bit more difficult, but LSU could beat Alabama next week, and then a 1-loss LSU or 1-loss Alabama (if LSU loses again) would need to beat Florida in the SEC title game. Though in the LSU scenario, wins against Alabama and Florida might put them back as the 1-loss leader.
I can't wait to hear John Lopez backpedal from his statement of "I'd rather have Zac Robinson than Colt McCoy in a big game." Stupid anti-UT Aggie.
Back from Stillwater, great win for the Horns. I would like to say that the OSU fans are probably the nicest Ive ever been around, besides Nebraska. Tough call as to who is actually friendlier. 99% of the people before the game said welcome to stillwater, hope you enjoy the game etc.. really classy fans. This game should put texas at least at #2, but as long as we keep winning, we are going to Pasadena!!! Hook em
I hope your scenario plays out but the fact that Cincy and Boise State are still ahead of the Ducks pisses me off to no end. If the Ducks can't jump them after a huge blowout win over USC I'm not sure running the tables the rest of the way is going to be enough.
There is a possibility that Pasadena might host a Texas State Championship. Texas vs TCU would be epic.
