I am not hating on the Longhorns in fact I want them to win next week and go onto the National Championship and win that. I grew up a Longhorn but I go to Tech so my loyalty is to Tech first. The fact is Texas might not be as great of a powerhouse as most people thought. Maybe the Big 12 this year is as weak as Big 10. Tech is mediocre at best, OU has lost 2 games already, OSU barely beat A&M yesterday, Texas despite victories have not looked good this year, losing to teams like Wyoming and Colorado in the first half. I laugh when the "experts" say Colt McCoy is probably the leading heisman candidate when Jordan Shipley has preformed a lot better than Colt has. I believe and hope Texas beats OU next week but I don't think they could beat Alabama or Florida right now.

Sheffield should be the starter next week vs. Nebraska no doubt. I wasn't sure on on Shef's arm or awareness but then I remember Potts has I think 6 ints already. Potts plays flat footed and with a young O-line you need to move around. Potts played well vs Texas but thats it. I think we were only up by 1 td vs New Mexico at half until Sheffield came in.

Its looking like UT might be able to drop a game and still make the national title game.

It would be close, but a lot of it will depend on how strongly the Big 12 finishes the season.

    I could see a one-loss UT vs undefeated FL/Bama

It would be pretty difficult at this point. They'd likely be behind a one-loss USC, Oregon, Miami, and VaTech because the B12 is so very crappy this year and because those teams lost so early. I believe the B12 is the only BCS conference without a single win over a currently ranked team out of conference. Even the WAC, MWC, and CUSA have wins over ranked teams. In the computers, a one-loss Texas would probably be below a one-loss SEC runner up as well. This is where the crappy OOC comes into effect, and the benefit all those other teams would have in the polls for losing early.

Texas is in the same position USC was in last year. No matter how well they do in the polls, a one-loss Texas would almost definitively be killed by the computers. (USC was around #6 or so in the computers last year and had no chance to get in the BCS mix as a result)

I would love to see Iowa somehow go undefeated just to be a witness to the hilarity that would ensue.

Before anyone wants to glorify the SEC any further, let's not forget that Miss. State lost at home to Houston, and Army beat Vandy yesterday. This doesn't even take into account how a bad bad LSU team climbed to #4 in the rankings, and a highly overrated Ol' Miss team had climbed into the top 5.

The truth this year is that there are a lot of average teams. There might be a few elite teams, but it's still hard to say. I don't know that we know just how good Florida is yet. Texas has really struggled on offense, but the Big 12 is so down that if they can get past OU, they could have a great chance of cashing a ticket for the BCS title game. If nothing else, they can try to lean more on that defense and return game since the Offense has been horrid at times this year. (Yes, bigtexxx, I agree with you on this- the Horns have zero running game right now. It's abysmal. Don't know if Christine Michael is the answer, but right now, it looks like no one else on our roster is, either.) I don't think Colt trusts anyone other than Shipley as a wr, either. So, yeah, I'd put Ship in the Heisman race, but it's a bad sign that he's having to put up 11 catches in a game. It means no one else is getting looks, or touches in the passing game....

Can't wait for next weekend....Maybe Texas-OU brings a little more clarity to the picture. Texas still has lots to work on.... Hook 'Em!

Oh, and I hope UH jumps back into the rankings this week. It's clear they are a top 25 team, to me. That UTEP loss is still mind-boggling.

Where do you get that from? If UT loses one game this season, we have *ZERO* chance of going to the title game. Our schedule is way too *****ty.

UH is ranked #23 after beating Mississippi State in Starkville.

They would still be the favorite to win the big 12 and have a good shot at getting into the title game.

If UT loses there is no way they will make it to the title game. Their OOC schedule sucks and the big12 is horrible this year.

Yes there is a way. As long as they end up winning the Big 12. Also, Texas needs some help in the Big East. USF and Cincinnati both need to lose one bc they are in a major conference. Iowa also needs to lose one.

Penn State already has a loss and an easier schedule than UT. USC doesn't play in a conference championship game so they're screwed.

Btw, this was mentioned in another thread, but the big 12 has 5 teams in the top 25 (AP poll). Just saying

I may start posting this in the CFB threads each week because it makes me that mad... whats up with the running clock outside of 2 minutes?! Get rid of that crap. Stop the freaking clock when someone goes out of bounds. Jesus.

How many teams are ranked in the AP poll is pretty irrelevant. The computers already have the conference ranked badly, and there's nothing that can change that now that almost all the non-conference games are done. USC, Oregon, VaTech, and Miami all would go above a 1-loss Texas. Not having a conf championship game doesn't hurt the Pac10 teams at all because they had good OOC schedules and play in a highly rated Pac10.

All of those teams would all be higher than a 1-loss Texas in both the polls and the computers. There are other teams that would be ahead in the computers, but probably not the polls, so that would depend on the specifics.

UT is most likely guaranteed a trip to the title game if they win out. I still don't understand how sammy thinks a one-loss UT team makes it over any of the other teams.

Losing so late in the season erases any chance of going to the title game.

I agree but OU did get into the title game after losing the Big 12 championship to KSU a few years back.

Good point, but the computers kept OU ranked high (even after the loss) based on their SOS (per wiki).

That probably won't be the case with UT if they lose late this year.

If you don't think Texas is the best team and wins the BCS, ItsMyFault thinks you're a hater. All of his posts about college football basically amounts to 'Texas rules!'

Hmm... no... people just seem to discredit the Longhorns a lot... I didn't say they were the best team... but people here just seem to think that OU will do this.. and that Texas yeah because they have struggled, they suck... I don't see how you can say that....
