The reason they backed out was because of Urban Meyer when he was coach. That was over three years ago. Really Texas couldn't find anyone better to play within those years. Texas doesn't even have their full schedule for 2012. How could they not have found anyone better then LA-Monroe, Wyoming, UTEP, and UCF three years ago for this year?
Texas was scheduled to play Arkansas until they backed out to play A&M at Jerryworld, Wyoming was a last minute replacement.
You tell me. They were the excuse for not having a decent schedule. If they suck how does that bolster Texas's OOC schedule?
Now, I'm going to preface this post by saying I'm feeling lazy at looking this thing up, but I haven't seen people talking about (and maybe it happens in this thread, but I'm lazy) a possibly scenario here: Alabama, Texas, and Florida ALL lose one game. If this happens, is there any possibility we could see a TCU/Cincinnati or TCU/Boise St. National Title game? I would LOVE to see this happen, as it would bolster the argument that a playoff system is absolutely needed. It does not look likely at all, given each teams' schedule, though...
Yes. Ordinarily, some other 1-loss teams would jump them, but there aren't really any good big-name 1-loss teams this year. And TCU, at least, has looked really impressive across the board and people seem to put them in the top tier of teams, so I think they'd be the first of the bunch in. Boise/Cinci could get passed by a 1-loss Texas, Alabama, or Florida though, depending on the loss. Georgia Tech could potentially jump them as well. Assuming the national championship is Texas vs SEC champ, I'm hoping TCU gets to face the SEC runner-up in the Sugar Bowl and Boise gets to face another top tier team in the Fiesta. I would hate to see them get in but get stuck playing some crappy team.
Projections I've seen has TCU in the Orange against the ACC winner (likely GT). Boise would be in the Fiesta vs. either Iowa or Penn State (probably Penn State).
