Speak for yourself, because I don't acknowledge that and think that is a very flawed comparison. The "system" is designed to find the two best teams in the country through a combination of the "eye test" as well as raw data such as strength of schedule. Is the system perfect? No, but when a team plays the equivalent of a high school schedule, they're probably not going to have the results/resume to have earned such a ranking. Should the system be limited to two teams? Probably not, and that's why there will be a playoff in time. But right now, this is the system that's been agreed to, and teams like Boise State are not going to have the strength of schedule to have one of the two most deserving regular seasons. What folks are angry about is the possibility of activist voters letting BCS politics override their own objective opinions of the teams. That's not their role. Two wrongs don't make a right - you're just doubling the mess.
An excerpt from SI's Andy Staples: BSU can't control their in conference SOS (well, besides jumping conferences, and they did just that), but if they go out of their way to play other teams at their own home field unconditionally (not ask for money or home-and-home in return), and still go undefeated? Then people should just accept whatever the poll results are, whether they're ahead or below 1-loss BCS teams. You might think BSU is not deserving to be in the title game, but they haven't done anything to show that they're undeserving either. As long as enough teams/conferences at the top who are happy with the way BCS is structured, you'll continue to have the Auburns and Utahs and Boise States. If your school goes undefeated and people say you don't deserve a piece of the title, how would that make you feel?
LOL. The fact that an accredited media member (Andy Staples) said this is both hilarious and sad, and is exactly why I have zero trust in human voters. It's sad than an actual trained journalist can be that illogical. So, Andy - you want more teams to take more risks out of conference and schedule Boise State? You want teams to show "guts"? Then you know how you do this? REWARD TEAMS THAT HAVE THE BEST RESUMES. At the end of the year, pick who you think the two best teams are based on what they showed on the field. Here's what Andy said in the paragraph before: So, you want teams to take more risks and show guts in their scheduling... and the way you propose doing that is to reward a team that may have a strength of schedule in the 100s with a spot in the national title game? And focus only on overall record and a few select games, as opposed to the entire body of work? And this is supposed to make people schedule tougher OOC opponents? It's mind-boggling how illogical that is. The fact that someone like that is credentialed media and actually has a legitimate voice in the college football world is the biggest reason of all to have a playoff.
