I agree 100% I find it amusing and actually really stupid that a bunch of other fellow horns are complaining and worrying about our BCS ranking right now. and some actually even believe that we're the #2 team in the country right now and therefore would deserve to be in the NC game, which is a joke. as Mack *himself* has said, we lost our right to be in the NC game the night of the Ohio St game, period. and truth be told, if we played them again right now on a neutral field, I think we'd lose by more and I would only give us about a 10% chance of winning. yeah we've gotten better (mainly Colt, can't say our defense has really gotten better), but so has Ohio St. in fact they may have gotten more better than us overall stop whining about the BCS rankings, they mean nothing right now. I'm happy to let the chips fall where they may at the end of the season. it would only be different if we were undefeated, but we lost fair and square
Oh, Sam. I don't really have a problem with how UT's offense has been managed the last 2 weeks, save the underuse of the Sweed fade vs NU until the time of the game I wouldn't have used it (relatively minor issue). But I do take issue with our prep from Spring and on through the critical game of the season--not planning more power football while our QBs get their feet wet. And the performance in that game--a game against the best returning offense but major question on a green defense--we should have planned ball control. And the performance against tOSU did much remind me of some dismall offensive performances against many other defining early games for that season versus OU where we didn't have a feel for our offensive strengths then either. And in the Brown/Davis era we have still only made it by the 2nd week of October unblimished once (the 06 NC squad)--we consistently seem tighter and less focused early, more so than many other powers.
I think we are closer to tOSU than we were because Colt is playing better and we are getting a better feel for the complete offense. Are as good as them, no. But it is closer. Further, honestly right now I think Michigan is the most top to bottom complete team and will beat TOSU. Clearly these are the two best football teams, but some others could beat them (maybe us, WV, Florida, Auburn, Cal, Tenn, heck I am not sure if LSU couldn't beat them on a good day), on a good day as well. Against TOSU we outrushed them and played them close in total yards despite it being the worst game by McCoy. We could play with them. But yes I agree with Mack we lost the right to say we belong in the NC game. Only us taking care of business and luck gets us in, have to take whatever fate gives us.
USC has been squeaking out wins and it finally caught up with them. They aren't that good this year. Texas has squeaked out wins the past two weeks and I feel that it will catch up to them as well. Texas isn't that great this year, IMO. Nebraska had them, Texas Tech had them, will it be the aggies that finally get them? Who knows, but someone will. From what i've seen so far, Texas does not belong in the top 5 in the BCS as many of you say. They have not looked all that impressive to me and have won most of their games due to turnovers and mistakes by their opponents. Granted, Texas caused some of those mistakes, but living and dying by causing turnovers will catch up to you eventually.
No they are not, the "heavy jumbo" sets are specifically excluded from those #'s. Coincidentally, the most successful plays on Saturday from the I formation were draws - if you exclude those plays, the average for straight ahed runs was a paltry 2.something YPC. ....that and the shaky secondary had the first of multiple shaky nights.
Actually Texas has dug a hole with TOs. TOs allowed the TOSU game to get away from them when they could have had the lead in the 1st half or tied it in the second half with a good drive (Texas has 2 good drives in the 1st half and was moving the ball). TOs allowed Tech to get a lead then have a shot to win. Special teams kept NU in the game. The other big conference teams havn't been much different. Florida and Auburn took advantage from LSU TOs, Tenn scraped by Bama and SCar. ND flat lucked out versus UCLA. The only 3 teams to be dominant are TOSU, Mich and WVU. WVU hasn't played anyone good, but will soon. So Texas and a host of other teams have a case for the #4 spot IMO. You can also make a case for UL, UF and Aub--but they all have their close calls and all but UL have a "L".
