because michigan's only quality win is against an overrated notre dame. and they had their shot. that's two reasons why they shouldn't get even consideration. and I'm a believer in you having to win your conference.

I do definitely agree there - if you can't win your own conference, you can't reasonably argue that you're the best team in the country.

Sorry, yeah. ND is not even in the discussion as far as the national title goes - no idea how I got that. USC has played 10 bowl-eligible teams (I think), and at the end of the day, may have beaten the Big 12 and SEC champs. If that happened and Notre Dame makes the BCS (likely), then USC would have beaten 3 BCS game teams.

I live in Trojan country and I find tOSU to be utterly dominating. They have arguably the best qb and defensive line in the country. Some would argue that it's better for SC to win the Rose Bowl than end up as runner-up.... Bottom line, I'm not sure Booty has the experience to pull it off.

TOSU has been the best team this year. Michigan was a close 2nd, and did give them a heck of fight on the road. SC has not been as consistent. But their early season and late season (Booty was really sucking some of the middle) SC has been as impressive as anyone, particularly with their defenses completely disrupting potent offenses. SC is as talented as anyone, it is a question if they will jell, and they just might be now that Booty is playing solid.

I do believe Michigan or SC would have a good chance with a month + to prepare for TOSU. Michigan played much better the 2nd half with some defensive adjustments (more speed versus the spread, putting Smith on his back). I think SC has even more speed and flexibility on defense than Michigan does, and with the best defensive coach in college. Troy Smith is the best college player this year and TOSU is the best team so far, but they are beatable. Also remember Mich gutted TOSU's defense pretty good. It (SC winning or Mich for that matter) would be less of an upset than UT winning last year and WAY less than TOSU beating Miami a few years back.

You're right. I stand corrected. I was looking at the Penn State game, but they won that won and Penn isn't even ranked now. I don't know what I was thinking.
