If Florida wins the SEC championship game, they deserve to go imo. No hating on USC, what they've done in the last five years is great. I just think Florida is the better team.
I'm really curious as to what makes you think that, because I swear just about every Florida game I've watched this season (against non-cupcakes) has been really close and low-scoring. and due to the fact they're low-scoring, Florida just hasn't impressed me at all...I thought their offense was supposed to be super badass this year, with Leak being a senior and Meyer having another year to implement his full system, etc. IMO they have been really just been hanging on by the skin of their teeth I just don't see how *anyone* could say with full conviction that Florida is better than Michigan or USC. unless you're just giving the SEC like a million bonus points by default, which I don't agree with
Who has Florida beaten this yr? Nobody. The offense sucks, and Chris Leak has been totally dissapointing all 4 yrs. SC would kick the crap out of Florida, IMO.
if florida beats arkansas they have an argument. usc lost to an unranked team, florida lost to auburn.
I really don't like SC or Michigan or Ark. I really close to despise ND and TOSU. I liked Florida the best of the teams with any shot. That said, no doubt SC deserves to go if the beat UCLA. They have a ridiculous nonconference schedule that should be the model for other programs, they dessimated three of the top teams from other conferences/independents. Further, the Pac 10 isn't the best, but it isn't bad. Florida had a great case had they finished strong. But they havn't. They couldn't put away the weakest FSU team in years. In fact over the last 5 weeks despite having not too difficult opponents the only team they beat by more than a TD was a Division II school. Outside them beating Arkansas like 60-0 (whom SC beat 50-14 at Ark), there is no way they should be voted ahead over the much more dominant SC and Michigan teams. Besides Florida would have no chance versus TOSU. They don't have the talent IMO. I think LSU from the SEC would have a chance, but their 5 TOs and mistakes at Florida and at Auburn cost them 2 losses they probably should not have had. Like it or not, with only 2 teams in the BCS championship picture, style points (not just if but how) do matter.
Why? USC has played a much tougher schedule (including destroying Arkansas) and Florida has been limping past crappy teams for a month. What argument does Florida have over USC? The only one I can see is that they had a "better loss" but USC has the better wins.
what do you folks have against SC. not only will SC be in the BCS Championship game in Jan. Most probably, it will be there the year after. The current year has 1 senior on offense, 3 senior on defense. and one of its best recruiting class ever will be coming in next fall, plus a couple JC transfers. Fight on !
But if you go that route and look primarily at losses rather than wins, then why doesn't Michigan get the nod? They have a much better loss than either USC or Florida, and they haven't limped for any period of time.
So SC had a worse middle stretch around very impressive front and end stretches. Florida has had a very unimpressive whole last half of year, and no part of their year have been as dominant as SC start or finish (assuming they don't bomb versus UCLA). Barring Florida beating Arkansas like 60-0 and SC struggling versus UCLA, Florida just doesn't come close to the resume of SC. Further, I am no fan of SC, but those counting them out versus TOSU could be in for a suprise. Pete Carroll is the best coach and they are loaded at skills positions and with an especially fast, talented, defense. They can well match TOSU's offensive speed with their own speed. SC only struggled when Booty struggled, now that he is getting his sea legs they are a load on both sides.
I honestly believe in the case Florida since the SEC has been such a good conference this year. Michigan has a great case, however. In all, it is not good for Ohio State because we cannot practice for any particular style. Oh, didn't USC lose to OSU already this year? I mean, Michigan lost to a good OSU and USC didn't... I don't see the case for USC, at all.
Where is the case that the SEC has been a good conference this year? They are living on reputation, but have beaten no one outside of Cal this year. They all have great defenses combined with terrible offenses. Michigan has the best loss. Notre Dame has, by far, the toughest schedule and the best wins. Both have looked absolutely dominant against very good competition, especially recently. Both of those have a good case. Florida really has neither. Average schedule, looked OK against it (comparative to the other 1-loss teams, of course) - that's about it.
WHAT!?!? ARE YOU KIDDING? Please show me one article where someone actually thinks that. They've played 3 ranked teams and have been dominated in all of them! What does that prove? The rest of the teams they played aren't good. I'm surprised they haven't played the Coast Guard and a community college. If Florida would have played Navy (or insert any other team on ND's schedule) instead of Auburn, Florida would unequivocally be #2 right now. But that's not my point, Florida could've beaten Auburn and they didn't. The media was correct at the beginning of the season. The SEC is so tight that it has cannibalized itself out of the title game. There have been huge swings in the rankings of Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, Florida, Auburn, and Georia, mostly due to playing each other. They've all been in the top 10 at one point for a few weeks at minimum, plus all of them except Georgia (all lof whose losses are to SEC teams) are still in the top 25. I obviously vote for Florida, but I can't argue if Michigan gets a rematch. Imagine if Michigan lost to OSU in the second game of the season instead of this week. There probably wouldn't be any question who would be in the title game now. That said, if Michigan wins in the title game, how many people outside of Ann Arbor would feel like Michigan is the true champion for this year considering the OSU/Mich head to head is 1-1?
I'm really hoping that Major meant to type USC had the best wins/hardest schedule. An easy mental mistake to make, otherwise I am really baffled.
