Preseason ranking is by definition an oxymoron. Because you are ranking nil above another nil. Once games are played, voters can rank games actually played. They are ranking, or making an educated guess, if you will, based on the season is played. Not making andeducated (ranking) based on their educated guess (how they think a team will play).

Except your point is invalidated by the fact that there aren't any examples of teams getting screwed by their preseason rankings.

Yes, a preseason poll is worthless. It's no different than power rankings in any other sport. I can say pretty confidently that Texas is and will be better than North Texas, despite them both being 0-0. But once the 12 games are actually paid, I can provide an even better opinion. And since the only opinion that counts is the final one, the preseason poll doesn't matter.

It's a poll. That means it's a collection of people's opinions. People can have opinions with limited or no data. I can say I think Texas is better than North Texas and rank teams that way. There's nothing oxymoronic about that. There's nothing contradictory about it at all.

Tell this to ALL of teams jockeying for position from the outset, season after season.

Wrong. Other sports have tourneys to decide who gets to be in the championship. College football is determined by the progression of ranking which STARTS Prior to a season (preseason ranking).

    No kidding?
Opinions, by definition require no data. The self-contradiction of a seasonal ranking is WHEN the ranking is done PRIOR to the season. Not the act of ranking itself. The best teams for a given season are, in theory, determined after the season is played, not before. Preseason ranking is the direct opposite of this. This is very different from making a preseason predictions.

Saw that....I wonder who voted Texas #1? I'm glad they got some votes, but I would definitely vote Florida #1 right now. (Although, it's silly they even vote before the season starts, but whatever.)

4 Non-bcs teams in the top 25....Although 3 of them will have a chance to knock each other off. Still, could be a sign of some slowly growing respect for the MWC. Some are beginning to argue that it deserves a BCS bid over the Big East. Not a single Big East team ranked in the top 25 right now....

The more news I see about the upcoming season, the more excited I get. Hopefully it turns out well for the 'Horns, but at the very least this could be a season for the ages. The loaded Florida team, the big 3 QB's all returning, the possible emergence of Terrelle Pryor... the list goes on and on. It can't get here soon enough.

Florida is a good team, but Oklahoma, with an average defense at best, held Florida to 24 points last year, yet Texas, with another year of tutelage under Muschamp has no chance against Florida bigtexxx?

Muschamp is the reason Texas will win it all.

In fact, Florida's so-called championship is a complete joke. At least Texas' championship in 2005 was undisputed.

I don't know how you can say Florida's championship is a joke. They beat the #1 team in the country two games in a row. You can complain about Texas being left out of the NC game and you have a little more valid point, but to say that Florida's title is a joke because it wasn't undisputed is foolish considering the majority of NC titles aren't undisputed.

UH can make some noise this season, but they will have to be on point. Im gonna say 3 losses- anything more is just a disappointment, and anything less is great.

Tech, OK St., and Miss St. are ones to watch (and that they will be dogs in). If UH wants to be taken seriously at all, they gotta run the table in the conference. Interesting to note that UH is the conference preseason favorite, and yet 3 other CUSA teams received more votes in the poll.
