according to rivals, they had 9 four star recruits last year and had the 17th best recruiting class. a&m can and probably will be very good again at some point. if we were having this conversation in the 90s until 1998, texas would be the ones people were making this argument against.

We've taken recruits from the "big name" schools. Bennett, Michael, hell a whole sea of running backs. Mallet took interest when transferring. I wouldn't say TAMU's problem is recruiting.

There is no point arguing. People love to **** on A&M whenever they can. The best part is that the UT people think that they run a clean program. Every major college has or is currently doing some form of "cheating", some are just better at not getting caught. If you are really that naive to think that only USC etc.. have cheated or will cheat then there is no point in arguing.

Recruiting is not the problem. A&M will be better very soon.

I should have not been so hasty in my previous comments. They do get people, but the mix is out of whack. Where are the big time recruits on the D line and in the secondary?

Anyway, I don't think they'll be very good at some point. Sure, they'll get up for the big games and pull an upset here and there, but as far as reeling off a series of 10 win seasons and playing in a BCS Bowl every 3-5 years, I don't see it. I think they currently have too much of a structural disadvantage given the A&M culture.

Their next coach absolutely needs to be a young, vibrant guy who is going to bring energy and change to the program.

For a recruit, there's probably better perks to going to UT... like having the better ability to make the pros or showcase your talent on national television.

SLC Outlets: BYU Leaving MWC, Boise To Follow?

Sounds bad for the MWC. TCU to Big 12? Kind of crazy that it would be the the MWC that might dissolve.

Rumor is that BYU is prepping for a Big 12 invite, apparently they had until Sept. 1st to either stay or leave the MWC.

That's weird. Boise just joined the MWC. What would they do if they left?

Yes and I'd have to imagine there would be a hefty penalty for leaving.

UH's best shot of joining a BCS conference is by praying the MWC can convince BYU to stay in a 12 team conference with a championship game.

Otherwise, the MWC ain't goin to be BCS.

RT @dennisdoddcbs: If MWC keeps BYU, look for Houston to become 12th team.

From what I heard the MWC doesn't have an penalty in place for defectors, and WAC just imposed a penalty right after BSU left.

From the MWC twitter they've already invited Fresno and Nevada.

So pretty much BYU is gone, and MWC gets Fresno and Nevada. You still have TCU and BSU, but not much else. Doesn't look like they will get there AQ anytime soon. :( Surprised UH wasn't made an offer. Also UTEP may be going back to WAC. Crazy trickle down effect from early BCS conference realignment talks, looks like MWC gets hit hard.

Also, BYU saying they will join the WAC in other sports, I'm wondering why. Wouldn't it be easier to stay in the MWC for other sports?

I've been reading rumblings from a few people tonight that BYU might stay now that Fresno and Nevada joined. That would allow the MWC to make Houston the 12th team to create a super conference and a title game. All this might be enough to get them in the BCS, or atleast that's their hope.

That is crazy! The local Vegas sports talk shows are continuing to bring up Houston (and UTEP and SMU) as potential targets to add to the MWC. Seems that the Texas TV market is something they (MWC) really want to break into.

This would be the WAC all over again until 8 teams leave and form a new conference which slowly syphons off teams from the old one until it forms a new super conference and...

What happens to the WAC? They are down to 6 teams, which doesn't really make a conference. None of their members are attractive enough to be invited elsewhere, and I don't know if they could attract any MAC schools or anything like that at this point.
