Absolutely. USC is the dominant team in the P10 and OSU/Michigan are the dominant teams in the B10, but you don't see them as unequal partners. There's a reason those conferences are fundamentally healthy why everyone in the B12 is looking for greener pastures. A conference built on extortion by the powerful members is always going to be unstable.

Nothing that happened has altered the underlying reality that most of the members of the B12 are they because they have no alternatives, as opposed to because they love the conference.

From what I've read, that makes the most sense to me.

Big East hires Tagliabue to ensure they don't get pillaged. They are gonna need him...

actually the best option that came about for those remaining schools was to stick together, colllect the penalties of the schools that left and work on pillaging other conferences with teams dying for a BCS spot. BCS gives you 2 years to get back up to 10 schools...i don't think they would have had much problem finding replacements for that.

I like the Missouri governor's comments (he was one of the ones begging the B10 to take them):

Nixon on Tuesday called the departing universities "the two weakest basketball programs" in the Big 12. Colorado is leaving for the Pac-10 in 2012 while Nebraska is joining the Big Ten next year.

The Missouri governor says the remaining Big 12 schools could have a better shot of making the NCAA tournament. He said poor win-loss records and weaker schedules by Nebraska and Colorado were dragging down the rankings of other Big 12 schools.

I agree the basketball league will be better and more competitve. But I'm going to go ahead say his logic is not very good. Those 4 free wins Missouri was getting were helping, not hurting them, in terms of getting into the tournament every year. The B12 has never had problems in their basketball rankings or problems getting teams in. Almost all of their bubble teams always made it in.

Just telling it like it is dude.

Major agrees with me, in fact, he's probably more upset than anybody, and he's a UT backer.

No, you're just speculating like you were earlier in the thread when you said that "Baylor is seriously hosed in this situation".

And now you want to talk about what might happen in freakin 5 years. Just let it go.

Baylor *was* hosed. They were completely powerless. They got lucky. Congratulations.

And guess what, the Big 12 *is* weakened by this development. Sucks, but oh well.

Go look around, hardly anybody is happy with this resolution.

Oh noes. How can we survive without Colorado?

Once again, you're speculating. We don't know which schools they will add at some point.

    Bitter UH fan is bitter.

    No, realistic fan is realistic.

How am I being bitter, by pointing out the obvious?

If anything, this development helps UH, so what do I have to be bitter about?

If what I'm hearing is right, you can forget the 5 years stuff....

i'm hearing the documents that will ultimately bind the re-worked conference envision 10 years and higher penalties for leaving early than what NU and CU are facing now.

No link to give you on that...yet. We'll see.

you need to let them put the ink on the deal before you start talking about what is realistic, donny.

Just going with what is on the table in front of all of us, can't get much more realistic than that.

Are you expecting some kind of last minute change?

you're speculating on how long a conference will last before you hear what they agree to.

all we've seen so far is:
    1 they agree to remain together;

    2. a prospectus regarding media dollar numbers.

and from that you're speculating about what will happen in 5 years and calling it "just being realistic."
