My Lord, how many more Holiday Bowl matchups do we really need to see??

(p.s., I'd be thrilled if BU made the Holiday Bowl)

    amen!!

I just picked up Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine this morning to take with me on my trip this week....

I leafed ahead and there was a comment about Griffin staying healthy and Baylor challenging for a bowl. I smiled. :)

So that's what this all comes down to? 2 irrelevant teams are leaving the Big 12? That's it??

I tell you - reading this thread is like having sex. It's a painstaking and arduous task that seems to go on and on forever, and just when you think things are going your way, nothing happens.

Dumb question: Why is it talked about? Outside of the Ivy League, schools tend to make academic alliances completely separate from their athletic alliances, and they vary collegy by college, and department by department. I was involved in research in two different departments in my university, and we did research with schools outside of our conference that we might play in some sports sometimes. And our teachers had a completely different alliances that discussed pedagogy.

don't ask me...ask those who think it's relevant. i never did. academics were so important that the Pac 10 was going to bring in Tier 3 Texas Tech to go with Tier 3 Oregon State.

Earlier Monday, Oklahoma State alum and oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens said, "I don't want to go off and leave Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor to go to the Pac-10. The Pac-10 is not that interesting to me."

I told ya'll this was all about rich alumni grabass'n with their drinking buddies.

As long as there is enough money in the pot to keep the party rolling, why invite a bunch of libruhls or hayseeds.

I give the little 12 conference about 5 years, then the same scenario repeats with somebody else tiring of being Texas' caddies like Nebraska and the 16-team superconference idea finally comes into being.

T Boone has a point. Not to be corny, but Midwest football is not west coast coast football is not southeast football.

I think there has to be some natural alignment. Nebraska was hurt when the Big XII was formed, but Nebraska was going to decline anyway because its just when Osborne left, why go play at Nebraska. It was a good move for them, Colorado will probably be better served recruiting Cali than trying to recruit TX.

I agree. Unless they expand before then, it looks like the dam has a leak in it, and it's only a matter of time before it busts wide open.

As for the 16-team superconference, do you mean that for the new Big 12, or the Pac10/Big10?

Big XII is not midwest football. It's dust bowl football.

My thoughts exactly. The difference is the Pac-10 might add another team by then, which would mean only 4 schools from the current Little-12 could go there.

I don't get this line of thinking.

If you're OSU, what about playing UT, A&M, OU, AZ, ASU, TTU, Colorado, and one West coast team every year isn't interesting?

How is that honestly that much different from what you were already doing?

Limit yourself... to what? Staying in the Big 12 seems like limiting yourself to me. The Pac 16 deal had "potential" written all over it.

limit yourself on teams you can play, but maybe that wouldn't have changed that much. meaning how many conference games you are obligated to

The new B12 has 9 conference games against the same 9 teams every year. The Pac16 would have had 9 plus a title game, with a rotating mix of 16 different teams.

Unless Texas schedules more marquee OOC games, the schedule is going to be extremely boring in this B12.

I'm pretty sure the Big 12 teams each play 9 conference games already.

Not much would've changed in that regard.
