I really don't understand how this happened. Do these people not learn? The conference was ready to disband because Texas was screwing everyone else in the league, and UT managed to leverage that and negotiate an even worse deal for the rest of the Big 12.

I mean, I guess I do understand how it happened - nobody of consequence wanted Kansas, Baylor, Tech, et al, which forced the weaker sisters to accept anything that UT threw their way. If I was an OU or A&M alum or fan, I would be royally angry right now ... Texas just pulled one over on everyone.

ut didnt pull one over on anyone. atm could have still chosen to get out of ut's shadow and go to the sec...

    too much stalling killed everything.

You're reaching at this point Donny. The Big 12 has sent a team to the BCS National Championship Game 7 times since it's introduction, more than any other BCS conference. To put things in perspective, the Big 10/ACC/Pac 10 have 8 appearances COMBINED. Losing NU hurts, but they haven't been good enough in the past decade to demote the conference to just above the Big East and behind the ACC and Pac 10.

But exactly who out of the ACC and Pac 10 would you rank above Texas or OU? Virginia Tech? Clemson? Oregon? USC would be the only program you could make the argument and they're about to lose 20 scholarships and serve a 2 Bowl Game suspsension.

I get your point, but you're overreacting to this whole thing IMO.

I don't understand where Beebe is getting these numbers.

Let me get this straight, Big 12 minus Colorado and Nebraska is twice as valuable to TV than the original Big 12 (with conference championship game)

Dan Beebe must have pulled a rabbit out of his hat to keep his conference alive.

    My $0.02:

    Winners

1a) Texas - doubles TV revenue and starts own TV network

1b) Kansas - one of the greatest basketball programs of all time doesn't get the shaft

    Loser

Texas A&M - Archrival Texas makes out like a bandit and continues its dominance over the poor Aggies

For UT, the status quo is a good thing. I don't believe UT loses in this situation - they have maintained all along they wanted to stay in the Big 12.

First off, the Pac 10 will be terrible for the next few years, worse than a 10-team Big 12. Not only is USC sanctioned, Colorado lost scholarships, Oregon has their problems with Masoli, and there are no programs on the rise. The Pac 10 _desperately_ needed OU + TX. Furthermore, I hated the idea of TX being a geographic outlier.

Secondly, I'm not against a merger with the Pac 10 but something like this needs to be done after careful deliberation. Hopefully it could still be in the future - a 'Western conference' would be very powerful and lucrative. The two conferences had already discussed an alliance before all the realignment talks exploded which resulted in the Big12/Pac10 hardwood series. With the Pac10/Big12 lagging behind the Big10/SEC competitively, they should look to expand this and have each team play an OOC game or two against the other conference. Not only would it be beneficial for competitive reasons but it would allow the conferences to better gauge the type of TV revenue that could be earned from a permanent merger.

Tech and OSU fans must be pissed since they had the most to gain out of all of this.

    Also,

    Winner:
OU - status quo stays the same

    Losers\:
Texas A&M - status quo stays the same

A&M nation(at least the many many at TexAgs) are pissed. They/we had the chance to bolt to SEC(I have no affiliation to A&M; not a student, former student, etc. but follow I them), and it didnt happen. They bought into Texas when they could've "screwed" them and as many may hate to admit, get out of their shadow. Basically, many Aggies feel today/tonight Texas will get/got what they want, when they want, where they want and we're they're little sister and theyre b****. Maybe an overreaction, maybe not.

I gotta say I'm somewhat disappointed that we didnt jump ship, but ehh, it's whatever. Things are what they are. I'm not gonna jump off the ledge. You can also look on the bright side like Looch and say we upgraded our TV deal(20 mil along with OU and Texas) and kept the Big 12 together(which A&M wanted to do from the get-go).

Gotta wonder, will this 10 team league last? Again, many [Ags] dont think this will last beyond 3-5 years. I guess we'll see.

I don't see why any Tech fans should be pissed. The only situation where I'd be pissed as a Red Raider would be if UT went to the B10 and Tech was left without a conference.

I want to thank all those that broke it down past being broken down, lol. I for one am glad they kept it together. I mean, there is a benefit to kids playing in an area where parents and relatives can get to. I mean if your kid goes to tech and you live in houston, thats 3 hrs to baylor, austin, and even closer to college station. Even a real roadtrip to norman is 420 miles. When thinking about the pac whatever, you're not going to any of those away games. I think it makes sense.

To those who say its texas and everyone else, it wasn't that long ago when tamu was kicking the crap out of texas and ou. I'm not an alum to any of the schools, but the difference between texas and ou on top vs tamu and tt is not that far off. Tamu needs to get back to their roots and start back getting the pool athletes they used to get. Having the kc market for hoops is pretty good also. Not having a conference championship hurts, but if they play every school once and have 3 non conference games, that will solve that.

agreed. this was a golden opportunity to advance not only the athletic program but the institution as a whole.

Some of you guys are failing to realize that A&M is already on the rise recruiting wise. Their incoming class is ranked at 17.

Avoiding the brutal sec schedule is key here. More wins means a better bowl game which equals more money. Plus, they're basically getting paid the same as the two big dogs.

Texas gets like 3-5 million per yr off the network, right? That seems like peanuts for them..

The Big 10 is more even in their academic distrubution but the Pac-10 is far superior at the top. Stanford is better than anything in the Big 10, even Northwestern and CAL is far better than anything in the BIg 10 not called Northwestern. UCLA is way better than anything in the Big 10 not called Northwestern and Washington andOregon very good academic institutions and even Arizona is decent.

I disagree. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

They're one win away against OU from playing in a national championship game every season.
