Ever since the Hogs moved to the SEC they have lacked a natural rival. They tried to create one with LSU but it hasn't been too grand as LSU already had established rivals in the conference. I can't tell you how much Arkansans yearn for the rivalry with Texas to flare back up. It really is tremendous.

In football anyway, the SEC is damn tough to get past perennial powers Florida, Alabama, LSU, etc. The Big XII is a little more light. I know the basketball would be tough in the Big XII but football is the cash cow as multiple people have mentioned.

That's just two I can think of off top.

So Texas staying means A&M's jump to the SEC doesn't happen?

I'm also hearing from folks that Arkansas is first on the list for a remodeled Big 12. UTEP in the mix?

I'm wondering how many concessions Baylor ponied up to avoid getting dumped out of the big boy conferences.

    # An announcement that a remodeled Big 12 will survive with a new television deal could be announced as early as Monday, sources say. 1 minute ago via TweetDeck

    # All 10 schools remaining in the Big 12 are are at the table working on a deal that would save the league, sources tell Orangebloods.com.

As a Ut student, I couldn't care less about keeping a&m in the same conference. The rivalry only matters a lot to aggies. Longhorn fans don't even care really because we have always beaten a&m in football. OU is a much bigger rival.

As a UT grad from the 90's, I completely disagree.

Do I believe that the OU/UT rivalry is much more lively with more hatred? Yes.

Do I believe there isn't a rivalry with aTm any longer? No way. I still hate them with a passion when the game begins.

The current SEC deal, which runs through 2024, pays teams $17.3M per season. If Texas gets $25M, they will be paid significantly more than SEC schools. Thus, it's not less than every single alternative on the table for them.

$600M for the next Pac 10 deal? That's 3 times the amount of the SEC deal that was just signed last year!

If Bebee can get a $200M/year contract, that'll be double the current $103M/year we're getting right now. That would be an unbelievable accomplishment on his part.

If the Pac gets a deal in excess of $600M, that'll be ten times the amount of the current $58M they're getting right now! That would be nothing short of a miracle IMO. Of course adding Texas/OU would drive up their value substantially, but you're guessing that the next Pac 10 deal will move them from being the 2nd to lowest paid conference to being valued 3 times more than the SEC. I just don't see that happening.

Dunno, but its probably just as much if not more than Memphis, which seems to be getting a lot of attention for some reason.

Are you an UT student that grew up or is going to work in Texas? OU is a bigger football rivalry (mostly because OU has been good) lately but if you like at in state day to day, you'd run across a lot of aggies and it's much easier to have the familiarity brings contempt rivalries.

This is what I'm saying. These numbers are unbelievable.

If the Pac 16 were going to be in that realm, you'd already be sniffing it with the Pac 10. But they're not.

By the way....I love BU playing in a round-robin conference instead of a Big 12 South-centric conference in football.

I also love that our TV revenues jump from $7 million to $17 million

Chip just said the idea of moving Texas-OU to December (from mid-Oct) to keep the conference "relevant" while other conferences are playing championship games? God...this entire thing is a mistake. They're basically admitting that Texas and OU are the only relevant schools (football-wise) in this conference.
    Lame, lame, lame...

i think you're missing it. he's saying without a conference championship game, we won't have anything to counter with...at least until more teams are added.

are you really so sad about the loss of CU and NU?? :) we've been in the discussion for best football conference in the country over the past few seasons...and you're lamenting relevance? really? and a USC program that may need a decade to recover would somehow validate UT?? The Big 12 was a better football conference than the Pac 10 before and after the loss of CU and NU.

    agreed...

a nice west coast swing in december would have been a nice way to finish the season.

I really hope a snag comes up and Texas makes its way back to the PAC. Stay away from the Big XII, come to the PAC!
