A lot of Pac-10 games take place in prime time and late afternoon Eastern time. Anyway the 10 PM Eastern time slots mean there is almost no other competition from other BCS games for viewership.

Who's right? Chip Brown or Joe Schad?

Sources: Departure to Pac-10 comingEmail Print Comments17 By Joe Schad

The departure of Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac-10 is imminent, four sources within the Big 12 said Monday.

One source said Dan Beebe's last-minute plan to save the conference has "zero" chance to succeed. Another source said it is "very unlikely" to succeed.

Texas' interests in being aligned with the research opportunities and academic missions of Pac-10 schools is driving the decision, along with money.

Beebe's last-ditch plan included an emotional plea about preserving rivalries and maintaining the best welfare of the student-athlete, one source said.

Texas A&M is now most likely to join the SEC, a source within the Big 12 said. This move, in the wake of Colorado and Nebraska's departure, would further diminish the chance of Beebe's plan succeeding, one source said.

Texas' decision is expected to come no later than Tuesday. One source familiar with Texas' plans suggested a hearing on Wednesday at the Texas House of Representatives is "a nonfactor."

    and a lot don't.

the 10 pm est slot means no other games...but it means most of the country isn't watching.

At least he's got all his bases covered. So whatever happens, he did get it right at some point, probably! :)

Even though I went to a Pac-10 school I am still hoping this doesn't happen.

I don't have stats off hand but I believe relatively few Pac-10 games are played at 10PM Eastern. Also if the Pac-10 expands to the central time zone its unlikely that those teams will play 10PM Eastern games.

    1. I don't think the Big XII is going to stick with 10.

    2. Right now there are 10...so yes...the pie may be bigger elsewhere...but you're dividing the pie 6 more ways in the Pac 16 than you are in the Big 12, marginalizing that. Annnndddd...you're giving up being the boy on the block, as well.

    3. They know better than you or I do what the "negatives" (politically) are from separating from A&M.

Apparently not, because UT didn't seem to have a problem going out west without A&M. They wanted to bring them, but there has never been any indication that UT would not go without them.

Because their "first preference" is staying in the Big 12?

If you think UT is going to stay in the Big 12 and not go to the Pac 10 if the Aggies go SEC, then I don't know what to tell you.

ohhhh...no no no...i don't think that. i must have misunderstood you.

yeah...totally with you that if A&M bolts, UT does as well.

it's possible that A&M said, "eh...we're going to SEC anyway"

which makes UT's move to Pac 10 "imminent"

That is pretty much an admission that UT is willing to go west without A&M.

It's pretty much them holding a gun to each other's heads at this point.

If I'm A&M, I don't trust that UT is genuine about the Big 12... from a business standpoint, I cannot see Big 12 making sense to UT.

Please. If that's true, then Texas would have played Florida instead of Oklahoma.

I'm not saying they can change tiebreaker rules :)

I'm saying they're ridiculously influential with respect to how the conference is run.

Is anyone honestly disagreeing with that??

That wasn't up to the conference.

    Right? BCS decided that, no?

i think it's funny that we ALL see this from the lenses or our respective alma maters :)

the BU guy arguing why the conference should stick around

the UT guy arguing about how great it will be to be in Calif

the UH guy arguing how UT and the others can't stick around, but how there might be some space for the Coogs in a BCS conference very soon.

I'm looking at it from a business POV first, and a UH grad second.

It's true though, the Big 12 staying together with 10 is my nightmare scenario.

The Pac 10 and the SEC pulling apart the Texas college football market would do WONDERS for programs like UH and TCU.

Divide and conquer baby, divide and conquer.
