The youngsters who said Arkansa wasn't a rivalry, they don't know. The razorbacks used to run the swc before they left in football, hoops and track. If the big 12 can get them back and add another team, that would be a coup

It does, for sure. I'm not sure it's relevant to what Sam was asking.

There's a rumor that Alabama and LSU will only play the Aggies in Houston. They don't want to play in College Station.

If true A&M is already being used like a red headed step child.

are you catching that online somewhere??

i think it's entirely possible the ags really don't want the Pac 10...and they really don't want UT to go to the Pac 10 either...and that all of this is about delaying it out and playing political channels to keep either from happening. i just have a hard time imagining ut and a&m playing in separate conferences.

It would be good to get the razorbacks back and add another school and then kick ou and ok state to the north. Don't they get alot of Walmart money?

I think it absolutely is. Baylor, as an academic institution, contributes far more to the state's economy than just as Baylor as an athletic department contributes to the state's economy. Having a crappy athletic department at Baylor would undoubtedly hurt their school as a whole. So there's plenty of reason to include it in the discussion.

Playing LSU @ Reliant = great idea.

Playing Alabama @ Reliant = FAIL.

I laugh at this. True story, my cousin was at baylor in 94. I know those who follow high school football remember odell james from aldine. He was mr everything and the choice came down between baylor and nebraska. The choice between baylor and nebraska in the 90's would be 100 towards nebraska, but he went to baylor. My cousin was telling me he was dumb as a rock. One weekend i'm down there and meet the guy. We're hanging out and they started asking odell whats greater, 500m or 1b. Odell was like, yall think I'm crazy, i will take the 500m anyday of the week. As i continued in amazement and listened to the guy, i wondered how the hell this guy got into a 4yr private school. Trust me, he wasn't the only dummy on the squad either.

Just to continue, when new students come to a university, it helps they're good in something especially if it plays big time sports. Kentucky gets a huge boost by the hoop squad and also alumni like to give more when the teams are doing well. When the teams suck, you will see boosters put pressure on the department with threats of pulling back money.

So I guess the horns are going to announce they are committing to a 10 team Big 12 which equals them taking their toys and going home because they didn't get what they want ... The A&M regents better not go along with this unless Texas agrees to equal revenue sharing

This argument is kind of silly - I mean BP has a much bigger economic impact but nobody would seriously argue that the legislature needs to turn its timie to protecting BP (or any oil company).

And anyway, last time I checked, Houston had an athletic department as well which impacted the economy, and considering that it's athletic departments financial status, being part of the state university system, affects state budgetary outlays - there's simply no way to craft a compelling argument that it should be a lower legislative priority.

And please, some of those numbers about the impact of Baylor's athletics on the local economy that have been quoted are absolutely ridiculous and tend to ignore the concept of "net" and "opportunity cost". If Baylor athletics were the ATM that it's being portrayed as - suffice it to say they wouldn't be a pariah who nobody wants in their conference.

Even if Texas agrees to a 10-team Big 12, the entire thing still rests in A&M's hands.

If A&M votes to go SEC, I cannot imagine UT staying in the Big 12 (9) and then trying to rebuild.
