At least you're honest about it.

I challenge you to a gentleman's duel for the PUF funds.

    10 paces at dawn.

    In front of the capitol.

I shall see you on the 'morrow.

That is great news. Houston has a ton of alumni in the legislature (3rd most behind UT and A&M). Hope to God they'll be going to bat for us. Man, I love this soap opera crap. I just hope this time my character doesn't get locked inside the car as it slowly sinks into the lake.

I know we have been over this, but couldn't the big 12 do fine minus the 2 schools and shifting ou and ok state over to the north division or is it just gone??

Would said legislature have a strong interest in keeping TAMU with UT and/or making sure the Texas schools stay academically strong (no SEC)? Do they want the Big 12 to stay together? What do they want?

A 10 team league will not have a conference championship game, so divisions are kind of pointless.

However, it looks like some are ready to challenge that NCAA rule should the Big 12 stay at 10 teams. And I agree with that.

Damn - wasted my 10,000th post mindlessly wandering through the uncertainty of conference realignment. I hate you guys.

I think there is a definite interest in keeping Texas and A&M in the same conference. Whether that's keeping them together in the Big 12 or Pac 10 remains to be seen.

I'm guessing their first preference is for the Big 12 to stay together. With the way things are now, Texas has their four biggest schools in a major conference. Should the Big 12 disband, Baylor would likely be left out in the cold which has to be a concern of the legislature. I'm also guessing that the academic standards of the SEC will come up at some point.

I hope something comes of it. I want the Pac-16 pretty bad at this point.

Don't confuse the issue, Donny. It ain't sexy. It's not the latest, groovy thing to spend countless pages here carrying on about. It implies that someone should care about the University of Houston. One would think that even if they went to school at UT, A&M, Tech, or Baylor, that they might care just a little bit about the major university that exists in the city that is the home of the Houston Rockets. Nope, they just don't give a damn.

Don't get me wrong, I know I'm beating a decomposed mule. But I got a hearty belly laugh out of the idea that Baylor, a private, religiously affiliated institution with an enrollment of 15K, is somehow one of "Texas' four biggest schools". If the argument for inclusion in realignment is looking out for the well-being of the state of Texas and its institutions, to not include Houston in the conversation makes one look like a giant hypocrite, or in gucci's case, ignorant. No offense gucci, I assume your comment was not made out of malice, but rather a momentary brain fart. I can at least respect Ziggy's point of view, "f*** Houston, I don't like them". Fair enough. We're not very likable, I admit. We come into a conference, we soak up more money than we put back, contribute little academically, and we threaten the competitive balance. Essentially, we're a leech, and a dangerous one at that. We're great for the state, but terrible for a conference.

Do you know how much tuition at Baylor is? That's right -- around 11k a semester.

The 15k students thing is a bit misleading.

At least the worst Leach is gone. I don't UH man, everyone else does. I just make fun of yalls misers, what can I say...

Alright, hopefully I wake up tomorrow and TAMU is in the Pac-16. I want that academic voodoo. UT is gonna team up with Standford and Cal to create some awesome sex robot while us Aggies will still be gig'n sheep.

For those of you (not you, Donny) saying that these conference alignments are just purely athletic conferences, see this quote right here - it tells you everything about the value of affiliating with the right conferences and how it impacts how schools are viewed in the eyes of the public.

Which two schools could that Big 12 add that would match the potential TV markets of the "Pac 16?"

I'm really thinking that this supposed Pac 16 TV deal is what is driving all of this. In one conference you could directly tap into the tv markets of Houston, Los Angeles, D/FW, San Antonio, Austin, San Fran/Bay Area, Seattle/Puget Sound area, Portland, Denver/all of Colorado, OKC/Tulsa, San Diego, Sacramento and Phoenix. There are no two teams you could add to the remainder of the Big 12 to match all of that.

Apparently Arkie wants to play A&M in Dallas and LSU wants to play in Houston...

    Misleading how?

    15,000 is a smaller number than 37,000.

The University of Houston is larger than Baylor University in almost every way.

Baylor's endowment does not make them "bigger", it makes them "richer".

If the Texas legislature is interested in what is best for the State, they would help their 3rd largest public institution, and not a much smaller private one. Period. I don't care how much your tuition is.
