College Station, Texas, based sources close to Texas A&M confirm the scenario of Texas A&M, Texas and Nebraska joining the Big 10, bringing the total to 14. This is totally logical when you think about it. Hence, the “Tech problem”, as Texas Tech is attempting (has attempted?) to stand in the way. Everyone knows UT Austin drives the cattle in conference expansion, and well-heeled alumni have (loudly and repeatedly) let it be known they are not enthralled with going to Corvallis or Pullman for 11 pm EST Saturday night games. Conversely, and direct quoting: ”we love the idea of Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State road games” at their respective 110,000 seat Casas’ Grande. “We especially like the idea of those fans coming here (Texas) rather than the Baylors and Texas Techs, because those schools will fill hotel rooms and support local restaurants and businesses. It simply makes sense for Texas”. He continued, ”It will be a bowl game-like atmosphere every Saturday these schools come to town”.

Sources also confirmed the rift with Texas Tech and Baylor is that “UT and A&M have joined together in this decision”. By adding this trio, UT does not “go to war alone in a new conference” when ongoing issues arise. This scenario also appeases the Texas legislators seeking to avoid any role in any decision (unless its popular and they can later take credit for it). It ensures there will be Texas based programming each weekend, and “Texas based Big Ten football in Texas every Saturday” in the fall, a key element to the negotiations. No empty Saturdays for the State of Texas, or the Big Ten Network.

So it appears Texas is covered.

If Texas and A&M opt to move to the Big Ten, what ramifications does that have for the reported expansion of the Pac-10. Does it then become the Pac-14 instead of 16? Do they invite Kansas and Baylor into the mix. Hey, if Texas Tech can move to a conference with the word “Pacific” in it, why not Kansas.

Now looking to the east, the source confirms a combination of Notre Dame, Syracuse and Rutgers will join in the next phase, bring the mega conference to 16. This secures the New York/New Jersey megamarket. Notre Dame says no more than 14. but does the Leprechaun have any clothes at this point?

Could Notre Dame be left out?

Jack Swarbrick, The eyes of Texas are upon you.

To say this story is fluid and changing by the minute is a huge understatement.

Wow, if this is true, then the Longhorns and Aggies have turned their backs on all of the former SWC teams.

Does the author not know there are 11 teams in the Big Ten? Maybe my math is wrong...But if there are 11 teams in the Big Ten right now. Adding A&M, UT, and Nebraska equals 14. So how does adding Rutgers, Syracuse, and ND make 16?

I'm guessing yes, if its true Okie St. got the invite and is planning to move, I see OU going the same route. I'm surprised no news on OU?

Also, I'm laughing at TT right now, if there really get left behind by UT and AM. I bet they were laughing at Baylor, now everyones laughing at them

Man, throughout all this I was really hoping against hope that it was a smokescreen and UT/OU/ATM found a way into the B10...AMAZING if true, I'll take 2/3

I guess i dont understand is if cu and nebrasker leaves, why does that mean the big 12 have to disband? To me, adding a quality program like utah and csu and the auto tie in for a bcs bowl seems more logical for the teams left over.

But they then loudly let it be known (in college station of all places) that they would rather play 11 am CST games in Bloomington and West Lafayette in November?

Not to mention that, if supposedly contemplated pac 16 comes to fruition, they'd play something like 2 games vs. West Coast teams (and one road game) per year. What would you rather do, go to Corvallis once every 10 years or go to the midwest 4-5x per year?

This doesn't seem to pass the smell test.

Sports-wise I want TAMU in the PAC-16. Mega powers - thats fun! But if TAMU goes to the Big 10 I feel pretty cool. You have to have some academic clout in that conference. TAMU does, it'll give us the spotlight we deserve in that respect. Either way...

yeah, that makes no sense. it's not like it's 11:00est for them when they're there. it's not even 10:00cst. what would alumni traveling to the west coast care that the game starts at 8:00pm local time (even though most start at 7:00pm local time for the pac-10)?

Would A&M really have academic "clout" in the Big 10? They can't keep up with Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan or Purdue...not even sure they can keep up with Illinois or Minn.

Or are you just saying it's a step up academically to be in the Big10 vs the Pac10?

Not interested in starting a pissing match, just trying to understand your point.

Considering they have relatively bad TV deals when compared to SEC, PAC10, Big Ten, replacing large TV markets of Nebraska and CU with Utah and CSU (or anyone else), would just make them that much worse off when doing future dealings with networks. Given this, I don't see UT wanting to lose money and split money will excessive baggage, so why not leave for greener pastures. Also, I feel no team wants to be left behind a la Baylor, so they want to act first, in the possibility Big 12 disbands.

    http://www.wacotrib.com/news/breakingnews/Colorado-joins-PAC-10-Conference.html

TEXAS, TEXAS A&M CAN'T FIND COMMON GROUND
Texas and Texas A&M officials met Thursday in Austin to discuss whether to bolt to the Pac-10.

However, the meeting ended with the teams in limbo.

According to a source, Texas President Bill Powers wants to go to the Pac-10, but Longhorns coach Mack Brown wants to stay in the Big 12. Texas A&M's first choice is to stay in the Big 12; its second choice is to go to the Southeastern Conference, the source said.

Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds has said that he wants to keep the Big 12 together.

Colorado accepted an invitation to the Pac-10 earlier in the day.
