    CU and Ok. State had no choice... there's the real possibility that the Pac-10 could have expanded without needing one or both of them, but that expansion would kill the Big XII, leaving them homeless. It's kill or be killed. They had to pull the trigger on the wounded and sickly remains of the Big XII before they became like Kansas or Kansas State.

    The Big XII covers(ed) the middle part of the country, the "flyover states" with the exception of Texas. Outside of Denver (which could care less about college football) and the Texas markets, it just didn't have the households to support the big-time TV contract requisite to today's game.

    A scenario I wouldn't mind:

    New Conference North:
    Air Force (?)
    Baylor
    Iowa State
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Tulsa

    New Conference South:
    New Mexico State (?)
    Rice
    SMU
    Tulane
    UH
    UTEP


    CUSA West + the 4 Big 12 leftovers and two other teams poached from elsewhere (I'm not exactly sure if NMSU or AF would be viable options, thus the ?s). I feel like it would be more realisitic to replace New Mexico St and Air Force with ULaLa/North Texas, but I don't know as much as these schools' conference situations.

    Of course this is assuming Rice doesn't get invited to the SEC to, uh, balance out Vandy...? ;)

    When I went to TCU, on Saturdays, if the weather was nice and we could hear the crowd cheering, we might walk over after the game had started and sit on the 50yard line.

    I'm an old SWC guy so the association with SMU and Rice seems comfortable.
    And for low revenue schools and conferences there is something to be said to holding down your travel costs.

    By the way, I heard that the PAC 10 associations for UT were all Southwest airlines destinations. Who flys to Starkville?

    There's a Kansas City TV report saying Texas and A&M to the Big Ten. That would be news to those schools.
