I'll say again...without UT, there is no way A&M is invited to the Pac 10 alone.

To be clear...I'm not suggesting BU would be getting in on just being BU. I've said quite a few times in this thread, unless Texas says, "we want BU with us" for whatever reason....it ain't gonna happen.

I didn't see the "alone" part. I assumed, if UT went to the Big 10 all by itself, and the Pac-10 wanted to pillage the Big 12 that you were saying they wouldn't even want to include TAMU.

True. ATM doesn't bring enough dollars. There aren't enough ATM t-shirt fans.

Yeah, I didn't think it made much sense either. Also, from what I read, the Pac-Whatever is against having a conference championship game and that's why they would ask for 2 auto bids but like you said if they ask for that the other conferences would look at expanding and asking for the same benefit.

Are you an aggie? Can you explain the t-shirt thing? I never understood how it was an insult that Texas leads merch every year and still fills the stadium which is now at 100,000 seats.

YUCK! I am not a Baylor fan! :)

Because Baylor will lose a ton of money if they get left out of a major conference. Not getting the big conference money that they get by being in the Big 12 will be devastating to the program. And the way politics works is "you want me to help you do X? Ok, make Y happen for me." If Texas leaves for the Pac-10 and basically says "we don't care about what happens to Baylor" then when the legislative block that is associated with UT asks the Baylor block for help on something, there will be hell to pay. Texas has to make every effort to save Baylor's butt here, even if they fail.

The money we are talking about here is dramatically different.

It isn't a screwjob because it isn't like it would be "unfair" but that really doesn't matter. UH alum are very bitter about what happened to them in the SWC breakup. Baylor alum have more political clout than UH. It's just a situation that a lot of people with a lot more money and power than us would like to avoid.

You are misunderstanding what is happening here though. These conferences are trying to get big tv dollars. That is the only reason for expansion. The two golden gooses in this are Notre Dame and Texas.

What's the point of calling yourself "in the same conference" if you are not having a play off game? Just a rotating schedule?

Seems like it's more to do with packaging for a tv deal.

    Why?

The two schools have little in common other than geography, and Baylor would essentially represent another mouth to feed in the new Pac 16 where there are alreadty 2 schools (TT and OSU) being brought along solely as beneficiaries of their big flagship school's success. . . why is there a duty here to bring another university that is not an attractive candidate in its own right?

    Objective.

Yes, I remember that from my days in broadcast journalism, when it was a requirement.

But the lines have blurred, it is not longer that big of a deal.

Again, I see where you are coming from and admire it, I just think that is an old school approach that is no longer valued by John Q. Public.

And ESPN is entertainment....you are holding them to a standard they are not interested in attaining.

I've already explained it. It's not really about the schools, it's about their alumni and political votes. They just don't want there to be any bitterness when Baylor ends up stuck in C-USA and falls even more into the abyss. Texas couldn't care less what happens to Baylor, but their benefactors and politicians don't want a bunch of angry Baylor alumni having piss in their cheerios.

True, culturally A&M, and Tech and OSU don't fit the Pac 10 mold. They're all getting invites because of UT and OU - premiere football programs that are coveted by the Pac 10.

I do think the Aggies could get into the SEC without UT though.

Agree, but the SEC isn't eager to make that happen. They are only going to be interested if the other conferences expand. They are perfectly happy without A&M.
