The schools in these conferences value academics (though they have some schwag schools like Oregon State in there) and academic freedom pretty highly, being forced to associate with a smaller school in east texas l that has all sorts of looney baptist fundamentalist rules and where the medical school had to break away to retain its credibility doesn't really sit well with them for pretty obvious reasons.

Have it on pretty good word now that Tech and Texas are...at this point...working for BU pretty hard.

    Why?

I mean what does Baylor bring in value to UT? I don't get why Tech is even in the conversation either.

Why is UT fighting for anyone other that A&M, OKSt, and OU?

Yeah, I'm blown away at the level ESPN is sourcing Orangebloods. It's everywhere. Yes, my "sources" - both my own and the people I read, could be considered biased since they're on some level connected to Missouri. I don't know anyone personally who has contacts in the Big Ten office. Then again, ESPN isn't quoting me (or them). I really the ESPN ombudsman would take this up in their next chat and explain why they decided to run with such depth on reports from what is basically a Texas fan site.

Baylor is right behind UTSW in ranking but UTSW is tied for 20th whereas BCM is 24.

just throw up US News and World Report rankings and see where BU would fit in the Pac 16.

BU was ranked 80th in 2010.

Oregon State is a tier 3 school not even ranked.

TX Tech is a tier 3 school not even ranked.

AZ State is ranked at 121

Univ of Arizona is ranked at 102

Univ of Oregon is ranked at 115

BU may get excluded for religious reasons...because people aren't comfortable with it for whatever reason. But it's not going to be because of academics if there's any integrity in the discussion at all.

    Cat,

Please don't take offense to my posts towards you. I only even respond to you because I like your posts (particularly on the Astros) so I actually take the time read them. I really didn't mean it as a personal shot. Please just take it as a friendly jab, if anything.

No doubt about it, this has nothing to do with academics at all.

Did you go to Baylor Max?

They also have legislators that are pretty buddy buddy involved here. Texas administration understands that if they screw Baylor here without doing everything they can, their supporters might not be able to ask for a back scratch from the Baylor crowd when they need it.

    Ah, that makes more sense.......

I 100% agree with you, heck the conferences themselves have no academic basis at all, it is all about $$$$ and sports.

I wonder if Congress will get involved, this really seems like a Haves vs Have nots debate.

And all of the Texas schools sans Baylor are public schools....

Hey, I wonder if Texas State can squeeze in there?

    ;)

Don't forget: Chip Brown is also an employee of ESPN. He has his own radio show (1-4pm) in Austin on 104.9 The Horn, ESPNAustin radio.

I seem to recall that there was a proposal to end the academic program at Rice this decade.

Understood, but what makes Chip Brown any more important than the others?
