Truth. Baylor Med split ties with Baylor University in 1969.

Baylor athletics generate around $155 million in economic impact for Central Texas. If that's diminished, then it's absolutely an issue for the Texas legislature.

And your perspective, as always, is without bias.

unless he has a different source than the one that ESPN has been citing to with orangebloods, this is the same story that leaked last night...to which CU regents said, "that's news to us."

Um, care to tell me what my perspective is? I'm genuinely curious - I was under the impression I hadn't written any articles on the subject.

Here's the situation, as it pertains to Missouri. There are dozens of media members and others who have extremely close ties to the chancellor and AD at Missouri. They have reported absolutely zero talk of Missouri being out, or any concern at all. In fact, the majority say Missouri appears to already have an offer. There are hundreds of media members and others who have contacts around the Big Ten, either at the conference office or at member schools. At the very least, Missouri appears to be on the list.

Only one source has Missouri on the "outside" here, and it's a guy who effectively works for a Texas PR site. It's no secret that Missouri was one of the first Big 12 members to look elsewhere, citing the influence Texas had over the conference as a leading factor. It's no secret that relations between Missouri and Big 12 South schools are extremely rocky at the moment. So, a source that effectively works as a mouthpiece for UT magically has some terrible news about Mizzou that no one else in the world has, and contradicts basically everything people are saying that actually follow the Mizzou program. Does that not sound a little suspicious?

Or were you just trying to throw out a random personal jab?

I don't believe this is true. I also know that for the most part the scientific research department of Baylor has won the battle over the prominence of religion. I know that Sloan used to require new hires to express their faith, but he was pushed out and I believe that hiring technique has gone by the wayside. Baylor is moving more and more towards becoming a secular school with connections to the Baptist faith. It's an interesting dynamic, but it is indisputable that Baylor is not the conservative institution that requires the Baptist message, or even the Christian message, to be preached among its halls.

    now THIS is interesting:

    http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.../baylor-tech-now-part-of-meeting-with-ut.html

Baylor, Tech now part of meeting with UT, A&M

That meeting between officials from Texas and Texas A&M to discuss the Big 12's future and possible contingency plans if things collapse?

It just got a little bigger.

A source familiar with the situation said Texas Tech and Baylor have been invited to the group discussion today. That's an interesting development. Texas Tech has always seen as part of any mass migration to the Pac-10.

But Baylor has always been viewed as being on the outside looking in. And with the Pac-10 expected to announce an invite for Colorado today, how could Baylor fit in? Maybe Baylor's lobbying efforts in the Texas Legislature are working.

There might be more. Could those A&M to the SEC rumors be more than rumors, leaving an extra seat open for the Pac-16 express? Or could the four really be trying their best to salvage the conference? No one quite knows yet.

Your perspective is that you are a fan of Missouri and Texas. And your posts here usually reflect that. You are a seemingly intelligent person but your viewpoints here are often bent by your optimism for Texas and/or Missouri.

I'm sorry you took offense to it. I didn't mean it as a jab. It amused me that you jumped at the poster who offered a potential "new Big 12" with Missouri in it and quickly pointed out that Missouri might not be left in the cold.

Because they are ardent supporters of the liberal/secular agenda and don't want their name associated with what they might believe to be a silly Christian based school?

Still can't believe this is happening, but survival of the fittest I guess...

Not sure how everything will fall out, but I do think it'll be for the best...although I tend to agree the ones that lose out are the mid-majors and those left behind...

The biggest perspective from which I was speaking was as a journalist, honestly. It drives me absolutely, positively nuts to see people treat anonymous sources from Chip Brown as the gospel. Hell, I'd be skeptical if a NYT reporter was exclusively reporting all of this info based on anonymous sources.

But here, we have effectively a Texas PR guy reporting all these "anonymous sources" (I'd bet my entire life savings that 99% of them are DeLoss Dodds) that seem to know everything about everything all over the country. I mean, Chip is reporting items that either directly contradict local reporting in some instances, or that people around the country who actually follow these teams and conferences 24/7 can't find a hint of. It amuses me to no end that people think ADs around the country, outside of DeLoss Dodds, can't wait to spill all their secrets to a Texas fan site. But to no one else in the world. Of course, we don't even have a single source on the record!

And people basically just take his word as the gospel, and post/talk as if it's an inevitability that it's all going to happen. I'm sorry if I'm a little sensitive on it, but as a journalist, it really does drive me crazy.

Well, there's no way to no for certain, but I wouldn't have been surprised that after he jumped ship for Baylor/Tennessee and then Tennessee imploded, Ahmad Dixon would have gladly retaken his offer had it still been open - which it wasn't due to both his own silliness and the fact that UT closed with guys like Hicks, Jeffcoat etc.

    Amen!

ESPN has been completely worthless on this. They're entire approach has been, "here's what orangebloods is saying....here's our analyst to talk about how it's all fact and what the ramifications are." No quotes from real sources....nothing.

On top of that...Doug Gottlieb says the other day, "Rice may move into position to take over Baylor's spot in the new Pac 16."

Really, Doug? The same Rice that has tried to kill its own athletic department entirely twice over the last 5 or so years?

So apparently if the Pac-16 comes to fruition then they will ask for two automatic BCS bids.
