I'm just hoping UH can get into a better conference. I don't know much about these things, but what about the teams left in Big XII and some of the good ones from Mountain West? They could try to get something together and add UH. There would be a lot of exciting teams there to watch.

I still think the Big East needs to be raided.

You guys think the SEC would invite Clemson?

Unless the SEC decides to expand - and take in Miami and FSU. Those schools couldn't care less about basketball, so they would likely jump at the opportunity to get SEC $$.

I'll make my second goofy Notre Dame comment and suggest they do football for the Big East, but trade 25% of TV contract for keeping 75% of bowl winnings.

Wonder if Clemson is big or good enough for the effort, and whether or not SC would push hard against it.

I'm curious how this will all shake out and which conferences at the end of this will still get the auto-BCS bids. Or maybe they'll entirely do away with that?

Kansas would be a great fit for CUSA imo.

that would probably be a better basketball conference than the pac-16.

Why is it UT's responsibility to figure out a way to bring Baylor along?

This thing is crazy. Now a Northwestern insider that apparently has been spot on through the process is reporting that the Big 10 sent out invites to Texas, A&M, Nebraska, Missouri and Notre Dame. Not sure of the validity, but keep in mind, Texas and A&M are meeting tomorrow, as are Missouri's curators. And of course Nebraska's regents meet on Friday. It would really be something if Deloss Dodds played Chip Brown like a fiddle with all the Pac 10 stuff...

This would be very interesting -- I can see Notre Dame joining the B10 if Texas does. I know they would love to be able to play Texas every year.

This is all like a highly entertaining game of Risk.

    SEC has conquered Clemson.

ACC has lost Maryland to Big 10.

It's not their responsibility, and their probably happy to see another Division 1 school from the state of Texas be relegated to the minor leagues of collage football. SMU, TCU, Houston, Rice, and now possibly Baylor all gone from the major conferences makes it easier for Texas to get top prospects.

People will say that Texas always got their pick of the top talent, but that was not always the case. There were always good players that went to the private schools that Texas would have liked to have had. I grew up watching SWC football during the 60's and 70's and it was not a forgone conclusion that Texas would get all the best high school players.

The breakup of the SWC made it easier for UT to recruit, and the breakup of the Big 12 and saying goodbye to Baylor will do the same.

Can you name a single recruit in the last 15 years that received a scholarship offer from Texas but opted to go to Baylor instead? The 1970's was 40 years ago and is unlikely to be repeated. This argument is silly.

Are we primarily talking about football?

Bc players like Jerrells & Dugat got scholarships from Texas. We have many players that UT would covet.

Perry Jones is the no-brainer but Dunn, Anthony Jones, AJ Walton, Acey & Stargell Love are all players that UT would want.

Edit: On Rivals, Ahmad Dixon (safety) got offers from every big 12 south team. It says he was recruited by Muschamp but made no visit to Austin.

I clearly remember hearing during a game that Kendall Wright (WR) also received a scholarship from UT. Some players want to start right away. They don't want to sit behind some other high-profile recruit waiting for a turn.

This would be interesting. This is essentially the original rumor from day #1 when a 16 school conference was first discussed - the 4 B12 schools + ND. From an academic perspective, it's the best option for UT. As this progressed, most of the rumblings have been that Texas didn't want to deal with the travel / northern hassles of the B10, and that the Pac10 fit the UT culture better. And, of course, the "Tech problem" thing which wasn't a reporter leak but a FOIA request, so you figure it has more accuracy than anything else.

Originally, I was very much for a B10 connection, especially given the academic boost and money Texas would get. Over time, I've gotten more excited about road trips all over the West Coast, so the Pac10 has been more interesting. But neither one would surprise me. I'm just glad this looks like its reaching a quick conclusion instead of dragging out for months more.

I've been thinking about new rivalries that could be formed by this, and a couple could be just awesome.

    Texas-USC... for obvious reasons.

Oklahoma-Oregon... Oklahoma fans are still pissed about getting jobbed by the refs a few years ago.

Texas A&M vs. Cal... This one is less obvious, but could be amazing. Talk about schools at the complete opposite end of the cultural spectrum.

As a Texas fan, I am extremely excited about these new developments.
