On ESPN right now.....Chip Brown is saying reps of the UT athletic dept told coaches today they tried to save the Big XII but failed.

Orangebloods.com: Texas AD and President gathered coaches at 2 p.m. to tell them they did all they could to save B12 but were unsuccessful

One thing to remember about Chip Brown: while he's a good reporter, he's basically a mouthpiece of the University of Texas. He works for the Texas' Rivals site, funded by the most diehard of fans. His connections in the AD run deep, and you can bet that 99% of these "anonymous" AD quotes come directly from DeLoss Dodds.

With that said, what he says about UT (AD gathering coaches to tell them they failed at saying Big XII) is the gospel. That part I don't doubt - when it comes to issues fully within Texas' control or related directly to UT, he's on the mark.

But when it comes to issues outside of it - i.e. whether it's Baylor/Colorado going to the Pac 10 or Missouri going to the Big 10 - keep in mind that he's giving you the University of Texas perspective. ADs from around the country aren't giving up highly-secretive info to orangebloods.com. It's exactly what DeLoss Dodds wants and the image he wants out there.

So, when it comes to UT, yes I trust him... but elsewhere, while he could be accurate, it's not worth taking as gospel by itself.

Lots of news tweets and such that say Colorado and not Baylor.

Yup - that's somewhat of the point I was making. Even Chip Brown has changed his tune now and is including CU and not Baylor. Honestly, Brown was one of the only ones who ever said Baylor over CU... but not everyone stopped to think about the agenda.

The University of Arkansas has always refused to play Arkansas State in football. Arkansas is afraid that people may view Arkansas State as an equal if the two schools were to play.

Texas would still have an advantage over UH in recruiting, but I'm sure UH could steal away some recruits that may have gone to UT. The Cougars had some good football players when they played in the SWC. And don't you think that UT would have liked to have had Hakeem and Clyde play in Austin instead of Houston?

Reports are that Big East will look at Kansas, K St., and Iowa St.

(EDIT: Oh, and Baylor I guess.)

    This is getting crazy.

Completely agree. Having another texas team in a big conference would hurt recruiting for Texas and ATM. I bet lots of guys would rather stay home and still get the big attention of a big conference. No doubt that is the biggest reason why they don't want UH and TCU. My point was that there aren't any good pros to including them either.

If that were the case, we wouldn't schedule Rice every single season, Florida wouldn't play USF, LSU wouldn't play UL-Monroe, tOSU wouldn't play Ohio, etc...I do agree that UH recruiting would improve, but the elite prospects will still opt for Texas, A&M, OU, and LSU. UH would likely steal recruits away Baylor, Tech, and maybe some from A&M.

And you do know that Hakeem was pretty much an unknown coming out of Nigeria right? He only had an offer to workout for UH coaches and they didn't even bother to pick him up at the airport. In hindsight, I'm sure UT would have liked to have had him but I don't think that example proves your point, especially considering that UT was a pure football school up until Barnes came along.

wow this is looking to become a huge cluster*****.

As a Longhorn myself, I am intrigued about the possibilities of USC coming do DKR to face Texas though.
