Bold= not impressive. any team in the Elite 8 would have great fan support esp. for an in-state game.
I listed current players ...but your right about the tradition in the 80's.

We had success this year ...with 95% of the team consisting of players will not make a NFL roster.

You have to admit at least there is potential.

Of course there's potential. I love the president of the school, now. She seems great. And I think it's great for UH and for the City that it get to a Tier 1 school. Love that.

None of that puts them in the real discussion here. BU isn't in the discussion because it deserves to be...but because Texas wants it there. If Texas said, "Eh....BU....we really don't care where you end up"..that would be it

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/061010dnspoblognebraska.886a5d1e.htmlReport: Nebraska to join Big Ten; Texas, Texas A&M boards to meet Thursday

03:54 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 9, 2010
By CHUCK CARLTON / The Dallas Morning News

    1. Nebraska apparently has its Big Ten golden ticket now, if you believe Fox Sports Ohio. The cable TV channel reports that Nebraska to the Big 12 could be a done deal by Friday. One high-level Big 12 source pronounced that Nebraska to the Big Ten is a done deal. Another cautioned that Nebraska could still be negotiating a timetable for its full share of the Big Ten revenue pie, estimated at $20 million. Everybody said the Cornhuskers were the key to holding the conference together? If they announced they're gone by the end of the week, what next?

    2. Expect the Big 12 to quickly hold a meeting of the remaining members about the possibility of going forward, either in person by teleconference. It might be a tough sell. Missouri, which may be stuck in the conference, will be a grudging partner. Those six schools involved in talks with the Pac-10 face a hard choice, especially with a great offer on the table for Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and either Colorado or Baylor. Do they hang around? Probably not?

    3. Big 12 sources have confirmed that Texas and Texas A&M boards will be meeting Thursday. The discussion is likely to focus on remaining united on expansion (given Texas A&M's on-again, off-again interest in the SEC) and the Colorado vs. Baylor issue regarding the Pac-10. Things are moving quickly.

    4. Baylor and Colorado continue to jockey for position. If any Pac-10 presidents still have open minds about the process, the news today that Colorado will lose four football scholarships and one in men's basketball. Baylor is solid across the board. For those interested in academics, that's an interesting development.

No disrespect but you have to get to tier 2 before you even start thinking about tier 1.

I'm not sure why UH is even being mentioned in this thread. They have nothing to do with this.

[D&D]It's also politics. Baylor might be doing marginally better with those schools if they didn't have a new president who also happens to be one of the most polarizing figures in national politics over the last 20 years... though how Cal could legitimately whine about that when Yoo is teaching at their law school is beyond me.[/D&D]

I did not like the Starr hire initially...I do with respect to this issue. He's the perfect man for this. The president of UT and Starr are close friends. Both have California ties and both were special prosecutors. The president of UT and the president of Cal are reportedly close friends, as well. I recognize these men alone won't make this decision....but I don't think it hurts.

Remember, Starr was the dean of the Pepperdine Law School before taking this job at BU.

UT and A&M already brings the Houston market (and the rest of Texas), adding UH wouldn't bring an additional market to the table. And it's not even guaranteed that UH would bring the Houston market, games are not even televised here in town and y'all can't even fill a relatively small stadium.

And please don't think that being in a major conference changes everything. KU has had decent success in football and HUGE success in basketball and now they're pretty much being left out to die. Baylor still has to cover their endzone seats because they weren't selling. The entire CU athletics programs is going down the drain and the Pac-10 is willing to pass on them even though they'd bring at least bring some of the Denver market.

Being a Houstonian, I root for UH every chance I get. But UH needs to prove they belong in a major conference, "potential" isn't enough to justify passing on programs like TCU or Boise State who have proven they can be a winning/successful program. This is especially true considering only 2 or 3 schools at the most will get invites (assuming all of this goes through).

Any game vs. a USC, Texas, OU, or big name school would be a sell out. But you're only talking about 1 or 2 of those big games per season, what about the other 9-10 games when you're playing the likes Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas State, etc...

I agree, if UH could somehow become a member of one of these super conferences, they could possibly become a national powerhouse. However, this may be one of the reasons the Longhorns and Aggies wouldn't want to bring them along. UT and A&M get many of their best players from the Houston area. Why would UT and A&M want to help UH become a potential powerhouse, and have to work harder for Houston area recruits?

UT and A&M want to keep SMU, TCU, UH, Rice and any other Division 1 school in Texas, down in the secondary conferences just to make recruiting that much easier.

I hope this was sarcasm. Even if UH were to join a super conference I can guarantee Texas, aTm nor OU would have problems recruiting and getting the players they want in the Houston area. UH would not even be able to compete in this category.

Not to mention LSU has been cherrypicking kids from the area for a while now.
