How do you know that? Based on that assumption, UH wouldnt have had a chance against OKst, and Washington wouldnt have had against USC either. I'm just basing my opinion on the way they are playing.
As a UT fan, I think Bama is the best team in the nation right now with UF and UT both a toss up at 2. UT must get the offense clicking soon. If the Horns can get the offense running at anywhere near the level they were last year, that combined with the defense will be pretty scary. Anyone who says Boise belongs anywhere near the Top 5 is insane. TCU is a much better non-BCS conference team. In fact, don't be surprised if TCU passes up Boise in the BCS rankings before the end of the year even if neither team loses.
Why? That's the case for the other teams as well. Should a team really have no chance to move up if they look more impressive than the teams above them? Alabama started behind TX and FL in the preseason polls. If they look better week-in and week-out, why should they stay behind those two? That suggests that what people think of the teams in the pre-season is the most important factor.
But why does it matter? Alabama is likely to play Florida anyways... nobody gets any advantage if they're higher.. maybe bragging rights.. but then again.. that's based on everyones opinions anyways. Alabama is already above Texas... Bad use of an example... if that was an example.
Alabama moved above Florida in one poll last week, and moved above Texas in all the polls over the last couple of weeks. According to the other poster, that shouldn't have been possible without Texas losing. I'm suggesting that's silly. The same would apply to all other schools.
Oh I see... well Alabama got the AP Poll right now. But yeah it doesn't matter. If one, two and three stay the same which is highly likely... same end result.
That's how I feel. TCU should jump them if they can win out. With the likes of Utah and BYU left on their schedule.
One of the computer polls has a score based ranking but he says that isn't the version of his poll that the BCS uses because it isn't "politically correct". His version only calculates based on wins, loses and SOS. I think it's the one from the USA today guy.
Yeah but who cares if it's not politically correct. If there was playoffs in the CFB... Texas would just as easily make it to the top and play in that NCG.
I'm happy for the UH fans here because they finally are relevant, but please dude, they aren't going to beat USC, OU, etc Be on the look out that your coach might split for greener pastures.
Well, they can always play more games. I'd say 30 games should do it. But I do agree that 120 teams and only 12~13 games is pretty much just whack in terms of ranking. There's no way anything less than a 16-team playoff system would do teams justice.
why is preseason ranking a factor in this? Thats such a stupid thing to add in, preseason is ALL based on hype and nothing else. Texas is #2 right now only because of its ranking and reputation. I'm sorry to say this, but theres a very good chance that UT will lose soon. The RRR was a terrible and sloppy game and the Tech game wasn't much better either. They need to play up to their talent level rather than just making a few plays to get by.
OU still has a good a good D. They have lost 3 games by a grand total of 5 points w/o their starting QB. Tech lost on a last second drive to UH on the road. Texas has a very good D (best in terms of yards per play), and they would have a shot against either bama or florida.
Every year when the BCS rankings come out, it reminds me of why I do not watch college football over professional. The whole thing is a sham.
I'd respect that opinion if it was preaching Bama or Florida ahead of UT. That certainly has some merit. But if you watched Iowa play at all this year, or if you watched TCU scuffle to beat Air Force by 3 points two weeks ago, I don't know how you could conclude those two teams should be above Texas. The Texas offense has been ghastly at times, but it sounds like people are having orgasms over offense again this year (like the 60+ pts bull**** by OU last year)rather than looking at Texas' elite D and special teams.
