UH has a very good reputation. I don't know what you're talking about. If you're not motivated, no matter where you go to school, you still fail.
I think I misspoke. UH's reputation in comparison to UT and A&M will always be looked at differently is what I meant to say.
This is true. I actually graduated from UH ... Central! I can state for a fact that UT and A&M get more respect on resumes, and deservingly so due to who they accept. UH is better than a community college, junior college, or trade school, but that's about it. The Technology program was a joke when I went there and I came out so ill prepared it wasn't even funny. I'll wipe my ass with my diploma any day.
Don't worry about it man, haters gonna hate. I don't see why UT and A&M grads act snobby towards us. They're still state schools and will let you in as long as you're top 8-10% and write a few essays. They act like they graduated from Harvard or something. LOL
You may be right, or you may be wrong. UH has come a long way over the past fifty or sixty years. You don't know how it will rank, compared to UT and A&M, in another fifty or sixty years. How about in another one hundred or two hundred years, you just don't know how it will be ranked. I don't think you can say it will "always" be looked at differently than UT and A&M.
The official name is "University of Houston - Downtown" or "UHD. It is not "University of Houston." If the majority of the classes is from a particular college, and that's where you applied for graduation, then you graduated from from that college, with the name of the university underneath. It will say "college of business" (for example), and "University of Houston - Downtown" as the heading of the diploma. In regards to "prestige", I believe so. The UH College of Business is more established than that of UHD. Would you want to lie about it? No, I wouldn't recommend it. You would have to decide that before you start taking those classes. Also, I think UHD's College of Business, aside from being infant in comparison by getting its own building, just started its MBA program and it got approved by the state. But the short answer to that is YES.
RU/VH: Research Universities (very high research activity) Carnegie <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ixCdY9DRk0g" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
I honestly don't know why I said "always". I didn't mean to put it like that. I'm talking about currently... until UH gets its recognition, it will be that way. Of course, that has a possibility to change at any point in the future so we don't know how it will be. Sorry for the confusion.
University of Houston is looked down upon in Texas more than anywhere else, it has a decent reputation in other places
He wasn't asking about "University of Houston", he was asking about University of Houston - Downtown. Totally different universities. I see now that people started talking about the UH instead of what you originally asked about, codell.
I've heard that UH-Downtown is an unrelated institution to UH-Main Campus. UH-Downtown was about to change its name to Wortham State University so that people would stop getting confused. This is coming from somebody who went to UH-Downtown, but if it's false, don't shoot the messenger.
Again, he is not asking about UH (the one on 45-South). It is irrelevant how people view it for his question... I believe. Who is "UH Jr."? There is no university named like that, sir.
I am about to finish my BA in Literature at UHCL. One of my professors died last week but he had a PhD in comparative lit from Yale and spoke 8 languages. Others in the department are also from big time institutions. When I went to pick up my books for this semester I had to get a wheelbarrow. Course I know I am gonna get flack from the "Only Engineering or Med School are difficult or worthwhile" crowd but I think my course load this semester would challenge pretty much anyone. It's all a matter of perspective.
Good to see the UH hate is alive and well. I'm willing to be that there is no other Carnegie VHR rated institution that gets the flak that UH does in this state. and yes, UHD and UH are separate institutions it would be unethical to pass off a UHD degree as a degree from Bauer.
Yeah I don't get it, either. I didn't go to UH, but isn't what's good for UH good for Houston in general? Aren't most of us Houstonians? UH has some kind of Tier 1 research award. Their school of music has always been good. Bauer has always been good. Is their architecture school good? I've always heard it was. They also have a pretty damn good social work program and UHCL has an excellent clinical psych masters program. The way some of y'all b**** about it, 1) I'd think I wasn't reading a sports site dedicated to a Houston team, and 2) that y'all were talking about Herp-Derp Podunk Community College. I really don't get it. If you have any love for this city, I'd think you'd want UH to not only do well, but be recognized for the things it does well already.
This is funny! I was imagining a little fat boy with a grumpy face because his dad dressed him up in a suit.
