Congrats, man. I went to NU for undergrad - going to Tuck in the fall for b-school. Obviously the undergrad and MBA experience are different, but if you have any interest in hearing my thoughts on Kellogg, feel free to e-mail me (but be forewarned, there is a reason I didn't apply there). Good luck with HBS and McCombs.
You, my friend, are talking to the wrong guy about homework. Studying for AP exams at our school is something you do in addition to any homework/studying you do to make the grade in the class. Because none of our classes cover near the amount of material necessary to pass the exams, all students with any interest in passing the exams at all must buy study guide after study guide. I, myself, have probably spent at least $200-250 on AP test preparation materials. I'll spend the next month and a half holed up in my room, leaving only for the occasional meal. Don't mean to sound whiny, but it really is a pretty good workload. Thank God I opted not to retake the SAT! Big congrats on getting into Kellogg! My cousin was rejected, but was accepted at Rice, WashU, and Emory. I know it probably doesn't mean much from a high school student, but, given the choice of McCombs, Kellogg, and Harvard, I would choose Harvard, not because it is a better school(Kellogg is probably just as good or better), but because I would think a name like Harvard could really help in the future, especially in business. Oh yeah...I personally never asked for extra homework, but my parents did it for me throughout elementary school.
[I would edit and include this in my last post, but there's some kind of edit rule in the spelling contest] I see. That's funny, because I live in Texas and would love to attend UVA. How is Charlottesville? I hear it is a great college town, though I wish it were a little closer to DC.
So the way its setup at your school is you have to take AP if your in the class? Does that mean like history and science courses you are required to take 4 yrs of it? or is it if you signed up for like 3rd year of science and what not you know going in you will be preparing for the AP?
We're required to take 3 years of math, 3 years of science, 4 years of english, and 4 years of social studies. We have certain classes designated "AP courses." We are given extra points on our GPA for taking these AP courses(110% of our grade rather than our grade). In the past, many would take these special courses with no intentions of taking the test. To change this, our school has decided to force us to take the tests.
I've noticed that the University of Oklahoma isn't drawing any interest from the top students here? Is there a reason that the utopia of higher learning north of the Red River is being virtually ignored?
If you like living in a town, where every time you turn around you see someone you know, Richmond/Charlottesville/blacksburg/harrisonburg/Chester is the place for you. But if you plan on doing anything fun without it being known around the town, a bigger place like LA, Chicago, Houston, Dallas is right for you. And plus being a minority, I would much rather have people that are more like me around, not that UVA doesnt have a diverse student population, but I was thinking more of the town itself...
Baqui99.. I don't know.. maybe because there are a lot of schools in Texas that are better than the 117th best school?
With its ongoing post-modern renaissance, Norman, Oklahoma is the cultural epicenter for the entire Midwest. OU is extremely highly esteemed in the academic community as a leader in cutting-edge nanotechnology research.
baqui.. I don't remember if you are a UT supporter or a OU supporter or if you are serious about the nanotechnology research or not..... although it sounded sarcastic. I'm sure they are good at some things .. just overall not on the same academic state school level as a lot of others
He's kidding around. Rice is actually the nanotechnology epicenter, since Carbon-60 was discovered there (by my two nobel prize winning chemistry profs my freshman year). He's sore that Oklahoma teams have titty whipped his school in football and basketball.
Football, yes. All other sports and academics, Texas owns OU. And, to be honest, most of us Texas Exes have become numb to the annual asskicking by the Sooners. We don't expect much else until the clapper leaves Austin.
bigtexx.. I figured he was kidding around, but recently I've had so many people telling me that private schools in the top 20 are a waste of effort and money and that "insert whatever public school they go to" is one of the elite universities in the world.. amazing how many people think that if you don't go to a&m or UT it is because you didn't get into the school
Been accepted by UTD and A&M, probably will go to UTD for their computer science program. Anyone in Dallas area?
Yep. I was a Musicfest judge last year too. That was a trip. What art area are you in? You haven't, by any chance, had any classes with Ms. Forster have you? She's a visiting teacher this year and one of my best friends in the world.
rejected by Duke, Speeding Ticket, No Scholarship from A&M(and thats only tonight)...ummm i want to die..well not really but to be rejected by your top two schools really does hurt and make u think u r not good enough...oh well i got an 18,000/yr scolarship to tulane like a month ago maybe i will have to take them up on that offer
I was F****D on my engineering scholarship to VCU, a full ride. It was gauranteed to one student in calculus per school in the district, and about 15 kids applied, I had the second highest GPA, highest SAT score, most involved in the school, and most out of school work, and it went to the kid whose brother is the president of the engineering department of the school... The only thing better than me that this kid has is the GPA, and that too because he has half the AP classes. IM SoOOOO PISSED. Maybe why I'm so desperate to get into rice, I CAN SHOVE THEIR ACCEPTANCE LETTER IN THEIR FACE, and show em im worth more.... dont feel bad man, it happens...
Well if you want my candid advice, I think you should focus on Rice, Xavier and Washington State. I call them the SEASON ENDER schools. Bwwaaaahahahahaha.
