rockets #1: I would check out SMU's placement. I think you are going for undergrad, but a buddy of mine is in the grad program. He tells me this year only 26% of MBAs have been placed thus far. It's probably due to the economy but 26% is hideous. I think the top 5s are pulling at least 70% which is still hideous. In any matter, I'd check out the school and see if it's for you. I know for undergrad it's really GREEK, which you may enjoy or not. In any case, Dallas is a kick ass city, so you wont get that "what am I doing this weekend" question.
Well besides UGA and Tulane, I was not accepted to the NYU Arts & Sciences college, but I have a phone interview tomorrow (from here in DC) with the Associate Dean regarding the General Studies Program. Then I was put on the wait list for Emory which makes no sense; my dad went there for medical school and has paid alumni dues ever since. A person from my school got accepted even though her SAT/ACT was 'considerably' lower than mine, GPA's the same, and class rank the same (2). Of course, she had a lot more community service activities and is black (if they possibly considered affirmative action). She completely deserves it, but I have a feeling they compared me to her for some reason). Still waiting on Rice, Texas, Columbia, Penn, and Miami.
Yes I live in VA, but the reason I'm waiting on the others is because I like Texas soo much more than VA. IT freaking sucks up here. Give me Houston over Richmond any day of the week.... and 10 times on the weekend. Plus having no professional sports team in the nearby really sucks. And its hard getting flights out of the country (always 2 or 3 connections).... the list goes on and on and on....
Anybody going to a Boston school im at Boston University so I could show you around the town if need be. Good luck for those of you still waiting on decisions. Alex Del Barrio Boston University COM '05
I'm not a big fan of the giving special treatment because your parent went there or not... actually I think it makes just as much sense to give you extra treatment if your parents didnt go to college at all.. If i was looking at it.. and everything else was equal.. I'd rather have the person who didnt have parents from a great college than the person who did.. just because thats one obstacle they started with to overcome.
mr moochie.. I used to always get those miami viewbooks and they tempted me to apply but I ended up not applying.. looked like a beautiful campus... is that your reason for applying there or other reasons?
5s on English, Music Theory (both parts), and US History 3 on Spanish Language (I write/translate fairly well...the storytelling part of it killed me) Nomar- HSPVA...I believe Batman Jones went there. I'll probably start a thread when I get all my decisions/financial packages in requesting advice.
Yeah, I'm going undergrad. I had no idea their placement was that bad, but that HAS to be due to the economy like you said. I know the school is for me, so I'm happy. Dallas is tight, so I can't wait.
Well i got waitlisted today for Vanderbilt...I am pretty sad but oh well i guess it is nice to tell them that i dont want to be on their waitlist....But none the less it is a great school and i guess it is now pretty safe to say that i am not going to get into Duke (I find out tommorow) So it is either Tulane or Texas A&M, i guess
Nike, at your school do your teachers prep you for the AP for like english and history?, at my school there are certain classes that are geard towards AP subjects, we could still sign up for AP's in other subjects, but $80 to take a test you didnt gear towards what was on it is ridiculous. Although my Biology 2 teacher talked about how some kids in his classes in past years took it and did well on it, even though he doesnt teach whats on the AP.
lnghrn4life.. tough break.. admissions have been getting more competitive lately.. especially for arts and science if that's what you were trying to get into. its actualy quite a ways below the regular admissions rate... so getting on the waitlist is understandable.. I have no idea anything about their waitlist though or how many they let in later..
RocketFan: Thanks, yeah I was trying to get into A&S, But yeah its ok, I believe that God has a plan and purpose for everything and that everything happens for a reason..so yeah i am ok
Just got my acceptance letter from Northwestern today as well now. So far I've been accepted there, Case Western, Michigan, OSU, and Kent State. Still waiting on a few more before I can say I've decided though.
I see...very nice. I'm taking 6 AP tests this May... Our school now requires us to take the tests for any AP class we take, so I'm forced into taking the AP exams for biology, chemistry, calculus, english language, US history, and comparative politics. It really wouldn't be so bad if we were actually prepared for the exams, but we aren't. There's not an exam offered that one could pass without doing an extensive amount of studying outside of our classes.
"Studying outside of our classes"??? You mean homework?? Oh, THE HORROR!!! back when I was in school, we did hours of homework a night! And asked for more when we were done!
