    Congrats Mr. Mooch, Wakkoman.

I remember how excited when i got college mail, even the solicitation ones that says come to our school. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside until i realized there was no way i can get into those schools.

The problem here may not be that UT-Austin neccessarily has anything against UT-Arlington grads, but just UT System grads in general, even UT-Austin grads. Right after I graduated from UT-Austin, I started the application process for grad school in English. I was told at the time that UT-Austin a big on "diversity" in their grad school acceptance guidelines. This means that not only might they use gender or ethnicity as a factor, but also where you did your undergrad work, with the preference being toward those who did not attend UT-Austin. It's not too much of a stretch to think that they might have the same attitude toward graduates of other UT System schools.

Accepted to UT's MBA program and got a handsome scholarship. Still waiting to hear back from Kellogg (Northwestern) and Harvard Business School.

That's an interesting approach. When I was looking in to it, though, to find out if they had ever accepted someone out of UT-Arlington, I did find that they accept a lot of people from UT-Austin.

I didn't pay attention to other UT System schools.

But even so, it would sure seem to me that you make room for the best students from any given school. I would even accept it if they have to narrow it down to one person coming out of a particular school. You just can't tell me that no one from UTA has ever been qualified for the graduate advertising program at UT.

Well Why we are on the subject....

    I applied to six schools
    1. Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennesee)(Still waitin on them)
    2. Duke University (Durham, North Carolina)(Still waitin on them)
    3. Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana) (Accepted + $72,000 for four years)
    4. Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas) (Accepted)
    5. Texas Christian University (Ft. Worth, Texas) (Accepted)
    6. Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas) (Accepted + $25,000 for four years)

** I am still waiting on decisions from Vandy and duke and also the other college scholarship stuff has not come in so I still have absolutley no idea where i am going to go

***And yes my BBS name is outdated i need to get around to changing that ...

Well the parents didn't want me goin too far from home so I applied at:

    1.Loyola University
    2.University of Illinois @ Chicago
    3.University of Illinois

Got into UIC, but Loyola and U of I said try again. But then, I decided I was just gonna go to a community college the first 2 years and save money. Plus, if I go to UIC, I'll end up getting side tracked from school and partying waaaaaaaaaay too much. Better to set up a sound stable foundation by gion to 2 yr college then switchin then to screw up ur first 2 years.

Boy, it'd have been tough for me to choose between Vandy and Tulane had I gotten into both of them coming out of high school. Of course, I never applied to schools like that coming out of high school. Moving to Lubbock was as big a change as I could psyche myself up to make in my life at the time.

To me, Vandy and Tulane seemed fairly similar. I actually decided not to apply to Tulane and ended up turning down an offer from Vandy... just something about them I guess I didn't like. I don't know if things were as competitive back in my day.

I don't know anything about the competitiveness of admissions at Tulane or Vandy, but having visited the Vanderbilt campus and knowing about the school itself, it's just seems like a really good place to go to school, in terms of places that are right for me.

As for Tulane, I love New Orleans as a city, and Tulane is a relatively good school. It would've been interesting to spend some extended time living in New Orleans... though it would probably grow old by the time four years was up.

Part of the issue for me is familiarity. I've never been impressed with Baylor, for example, because both my parents went to Baylor, and everytime we visited my grandmother, we'd have to take a day trip to Waco and check out the campus and the city. Plus, Waco isn't exactly a neat place to live, in general.

It was probably easier for me to be impressed by Vandy and Tulane because I've been to both places but didn't spend enough time there to lose that sense of wonder (for lack of a better word). And I would never have considered going someplace very far away (especially New England. I lived in Connecticut for a year when I was in high school, and I hated every second of it).

But then again, my first choice of colleges coming out of high school was SMU, but my step-mother convinced my father that I wasn't worth spending that kind of money on, so I wasn't allowed to apply and my choices were pretty well limited to state schools, and Tech was at least close to the people I knew.

But that experience ends up being a plus for my kids. I'm probably going to go overboard helping my kids decide which school they want to go to (my older son is a freshman in high school, so it's not all that far away.)
