same here, my renz are pushing VCU(due to the proximity to home), but im hell bent on going to Va. Tech...
im down the road at georgetown, but from my visits, i learned that the law school is pretty separate from the college, both physically and academically.
bastards rejected me... but i faxed them a letter of my acceptance at RICE, and UVA.... they know what they lost....
Congrats Nike. Sorry to hear about that adeel. I saw that a couple of you all have been accepted to the business school at UT, so i thought id offer some advice. If you're interested in accounting, I'm in a program called PPA, Professional Program in Accounting, that is great. I know A&M and some other schools have it too, but the PPA program at UT is why we're usually ranked 1st or 2nd in accounting by US news or Public Accounting monthly and alot of other accredited sources. The PPA program is a 5 year program, but can be easily finished in 4 years. You graduate with a bachelors in accounting and a Masters in public accounting. Another plus is that you are bred to take the CPA exam. The passing rate last year for all four sections was 62% at UT, compared to 19% at all the other state universities. Another plus is that you get recruited by the big four accounting firms, along with some middle market firms, and are nearly guaranteed a job once you graduate. Even if you arent planning on doing accounting for your whole life, the background allows you to pursue a career in nearly any aspect of business. Just a suggestion.
ameet, i was looking into doing this, what are some of the basic courses that are taken during the 4-5 years.... I still am undecided, but just ruled out engineering, and have been tipped towards business. One of my uncles is a CPA, i would ask him what he does, but i hate him.... btw, i heard them cpa's make crapload of money.
ameet- I've been seriously considering that very idea. Right now-which I definitely know is subject to change- my ultimate goal is probably a law career, which of course requires law school. I got into BHP which kind of makes things easier by not having to really worry about officially declaring another "major". The PPA program is definitely of interest to me. The way I understood it, it's not something that is declared until your 2nd or 3rd year? I have a pretty good amount of matriculating hours (currently over 30), so I quite probably would be able to do it in 4 years. Quick question out of curiosity- did you (or anyone else for that matter) study abroad through the business school at UT through the CIBER(?) program.
NIKE - Happy to see you're coming to BHP. I am also planning on going to law school after Business Honors, though I am doing Marketing and Plan II instead of PPA. Regarding the CIBER programs, there is one offered on Business Law over the Summer at the University of Edinburgh you might be interested in. I have heard a lot of good things about it, and Shelley, the head BHP advisor, was once the liaison to the program and has a lot of information about it. I actually plan on doing it in Summer '05, so I should have more information about it for you in about a year I guess (I know, not much use to you right now, oh well). They have other programs too, like Paris I think. But Scotland is the one I am most familiar and interested in, so I know more about that than any others. (BTW, 100 posts, woohoo! Its about damn time!)
qwerty- It is a very nice feeling to know where I'm going to be for the next 4 years, even more so at a place like UT. Thanks to a pair of generous scholarships, my tuition is paid and then some. Plan II/BHP is a very strong degree...my brother is in PlanII (and economics), I just decided I'd rather follow my own path. I had read about the Edinburgh when I was just doing some general research, and it did catch my eye. We'll have to try and catch some Rockets games next year. (Here's to my attempt at turning this into a UT Business thread, lol).
Not to dredge up an old thread... but I just got my acceptance letter to South Texas College of Law. I will be a 1L in the Fall 2004... plus working full time. Wish me luck, I'll need it...
