    I don't think it's only your credit score at issue here. The bank can make you pay if your relative won't pay or default.

    Well, it's tough, but I think you have no choice but demand your relative to pay and make an issue out of it. If that doesn't change, I am afraid you probably will have to bite the bullet.

    Check the terms on the contract you signed. They should tell you what your rights are.

    Well you co-signed it, so follow the others advice and pay it off. Realistically, you will never get the money back. Just never sign stuff like this again. As for your wife, life's not perfect, there's no way you don't have to pay and Wells Fargo won't be mad at you. :)

    That terroristic threat stuff sounds worse than it is. We'll see if it is still on his record in Feb.

    Oh, I certainly have not learned my lesson. I'll continue to co-sign for him and other relatives as long as the loan is for something that adds value (which an education certainly does).
