Yes but its not the sixties. We have had a black president

He sent his black attorney general to investigate the Ferguson shooting

Right, and they have more of an effect. I'd rather blame the governments first before Carmelo, Tmac, and whoever else. That's just me, for me, the USA has more of a responsibility when it comes to slave labor than Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo Anthony and Tmac are just trying to help people where they can.

Personally, I don't care that they were quiet. For me, the result is all that matters. Sure, Nike is trying to make money, that's fine. Since the goal of Nike trying to get money and helping the cause now aligned then I see that as a good thing, not bad.

Their stock price will bounce back, I don't think this deal will cause permanent damage to their brand and if it keeps up, they'll dump Kaep and move on.

thing is, there are enough comparable alternatives that boycotting Nike is relatively painless

Nike wouldn't even notice it if I started to boycott them (which i'm not advocating anyone do), I haven't bought anything Nike in well over a decade...maybe 2 now that I think about it, I just prefer other brands.

    Kind of the thing here
Most of the BOYCOTTERS ain't Nike's base

It would be like a Liberal boycotting Trump . . ..well .. .you weren't supporting him any way soooooooo

That's why I always suggest that companies know who their customer base really is before responding to boycotts. If Nike thinks that their real customers are the kind of idiots who would support Kaep, then they should just ignore the talk about boycotts and move on. Many other companies have harmed themselves by giving in to an outrage mob of non-customers in the past. Nike shouldn't become just another one of them.

I'm CONFIDENT that the leadership of Nike did in depth research about their customer base and how they would be impacted by their new Kaepernick advertising push. I'm also fairly confident they felt any harm to their bottom line from boycotts and anger would be overcome by cheers and rallies to their side by Kaepernick supporters. Of course, time will tell.

because the 'kind or idiots' who don't support Kaepernick . . .are the "kind of idiots' that support Trump

Not only them though, basically anyone that has even a halfway functioning brain would be smart enough to be against this Kaepernick nonsense. It's really not a partisan thing.

Basically those same types of people who thought that OJ was innocent are your Kaepernick apologists.

I have to admit, I kind of hate to see this, in that... we're so tribally separated already... where, say, a nerdy professor from San Francisco can't as easily walk into a diner in rural Utah and have a casual conversation with a truck driver... and now we'll have choice of athletic wear to use as separating signs too. "That guy is wearing Nike shoes. Must be a liberal. Steer clear." I guess I'm too conflict averse, but it just seems like a shame. The media is already exploiting tribalism in a huge way to make loads of money. Now a shoe company (with no real morals or "stance" in actual fact, if you ask me) is also going to try to make money with political controversy.

(With apologies to @Rocket River for my willful and unauthorized use of "..." )

EDIT: I'm not the only one disappointed.

just saw a notice on fb from a friend who is a pastor at a church in Michigan: "So if anyone has any newer Nike gear they are deciding to get rid of, The Caring and Sharing Thrift Store would be glad to take it."

    yep. it's started already

Personally I think that's just ridiculous. If I had any Nike stuff, I'd still use it.
