While bands can of course go in whatever direction I want, I think Coldplay strayed too far away from what made them great. Viva La Vida was their last great album imo. Muse on the other hand, while also experimenting, stayed true to their musical identity and haven't fallen off to the extent Coldplay has, and thats what puts them over the edge for me.
Coldplay’s first 2 albums were great in my opinion after that I haven’t liked a single song. The only thing I like from Muse is a cover.
Parachutes and Cold Rush of Blood to the Head. After that they sound horrible to me. They are not the exception though. Rarely do I like full catalogs from artists. The Beatles. Pink Floyd. OutKast, Tool, I’m sure there are others. Overall though it seems bands drop off almost universally.
Great British bands from this time should also include Arctic Monkeys and my favorite Biffy Clyro. I still listen to Coldplay's first 2 LPs though.
I like some Coldplay stuff but never got passed the hits I am sure I have heard some Muse stuff, but I need to refresh my memory. I went through a huge British phase in the 80's and 90's, but that was mainly because of the soul music influences. What would Muse be considered genre wise? What should I listen to, so I get a good understanding?
