alright my oasis pimpin' paid off. i LOVE the verve, they're my second favorite brit-pop band after oasis, though coldplay is close. a northern soul is imo every bit as good as urban hymns which you probably have.
Hehe - I just got a refund confirmation from a deadbeat Amazon Marketplace seller. NEVER buy anything from "Movie-Mars"; terrible seller. So, with this money, I think I am going to buy more Brit-pop such as "Parklife" by Blur and "Different Class" by Pulp. And yea, I got "Urban Hymns" and it is one of the best Brit-pop albums ever. Glad to hear that you feel that "A Northern Soul" is just as good. And I am sure you have this album already but I like to plug it whenever I can - the Stone Roses self-titled album was listened to last night. That album is so freaking brilliant - you can really tell how it was an inspiration for bands like Oasis, Blur, Verve, etc.
Ok, got the CD yesterday and it's official.. I have bad taste in music, I think this is Coldplays best CD.. track #4 "Fix You" I think is the best song on the CD.. anyone else just now get a chance to pickup the CD and give it a spin yet??
To continue my long standing habit of providing the BBS with insightful and well thought out music reviews, I picked up the new Coldplay yesterday. Not bad.
I checked Amazon's tracking site and it has arrived this morning. So, I will get to spin it when I get home - I am so excited! Oski, I am curious to hear what you think about it. You think it is better than the first and/or second or about the same or worse, etc.?
I've never really gotten to into Coldplay, but I somehow ended up with their second album in my car and I enjoyed it. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands so i think in the back of my mind I've always felt that meant I couldn't like Coldplay. Yeah, stupid I know. I'm gonna check out the new album now. Edit: Nevermind, looks like MTV took down the leak. Is it worth picking up on my lunch break?
I'll probably do that in a little while, I have to run some errands in a few minutes. I bought it last night and started listening to it on the way home, but I didn't finish because I was tired as hell. Anyways, I'll play from beginning to end unhindered when I get a chance, then I'll pop in the other 2, since it's been a while since I've spinned those and then I'll give my take, though I'm not the music aficionado that some of you other guys are and I don't know what I can add to the conversation, though I think I can top Rockemtan95's 2 word reveiws.
I had already listened to it for a while. It's not as good as A Rush of Blood to the Head, but it isn't bad either. I think they were trying to throw something new out there, more for the masses. It, atleast, is gaining a lot of interest. Got mine at Target, and the special release there was Animals. If you go to Circuit City, I think the special release is Yellow Pt. 2. Just something I heard. If you buy it from Target or Circuit City, it not only is cheaper, you get a free song.
It's Okay - I Think (Wow, this is new by adding a title to your post!) Okay, I have listened to this all the way through 3 times. Tracks 1, 4, and 5 are my favs and rank right up there with some of my all-time favorite Coldplay songs like "Spies", "Sparks", and "The Scientist". Track 5 ("Talk") is especially cool to me as the guitar riff quotes "Computer Love" by Kraftwerk, one of my all-time favorite bands! But after track 7, the rest of the album sorta drags to me. The songs aren't bad but they aren't memorable to me. I don't know if that is really a bad thing, though as it may not be as poppy as I thought it was. Or it could be that they are just bland songs. Nonetheless, it may take some more time to really enjoy this album. Coldplay is a good enough band to me, that I am going to buy all of their studio albums regardless of its consistency. And I am not too worried about not getting into it right away. "Parachutes" was listened by me and the second time I listened to it was like 6 months later. For some reason, I didn't get it the first time I listened to it (same thing with Floyd's "Animals") but the more times I listened to it, the more I liked it. Hopefully same thing will happen with "X&Y".
I havent picked up "X&Y" yet, was waiting to see what everyone thought, I really like "A Rush of Blood to the Head", but i'm saving my money for the new Foo Fighters "In Your Honor" that comes out Tuesday, might get "X&Y" along with it.
IMHO ~ Coldplay is a band that is good for about 2 or 3 great songs per album -- the rest is fillerish.
I've had the new album for a few days now and have listened to all of the songs a pretty good amount. I think it is a damned good album and is very close in calibur (possibly even better) to the first 2 albums. I'll agree with Manny that the first half of the album definately seems to be better than the second half. However, the second half is still pretty good, and nearly all of the second-half songs have grown on me a lot. In the end, the album rocks. "Square 1" & "White Shadows" are amongst my favorites.
