Just got my copy in the mail today and loaded it on the iPod. I haven't gotten all the way through yet but it is definitely different from their first 3 albums. To me, the first 3 albums all flowed as one long piece. This album is more about the songs (reminds me how "The Bends" was and no, I am not saying that this new Coldplay album is as good as "The Bends"). I am going to have to listen to this one a couple of times before I can really make a judgement call on it. I will say that on the first listen, the two best songs, IMO, are "Viva la Vida" and "Violet Hill". "Violet Hill" may have become my favorite song by them ever.

Anyone else have thoughts on it?

I think its a pretty good album. There are no epic songs on this new one like there were on their previous three releases, imo. The lyrical quality on Viva La Vida is outstanding though.

Track 42 sounds like something from Parachutes

My favorite two tracks are Strawberry Swing and Cemetaries of London.

I absolutely love Lost and Strawberry Swing. Also really like 42 when it picks up speed that is. Anyone know what's up with Life in Technicolor? I heard it's supposed to have lyrics on it for later but I'm not sure, I definitely like the music on it though.

I don't listen to this music generally, but I like the song on this commercial, the only reason I knew it was Coldplay is because of another song that they keep showing the video of on MTV2 which is also pretty good. Might have to step out my box and get this.

LiT is just acoustic I believe, but it's a good start to the album!

I heard the other day that the single is a total ripoff of some other obscure band. Apparently the dude that wrote it is suing Chris Martin. Anyone hear about this? Total BS or is there something to it.

Yeah, the guy said that Chris Martin was in the crowd during a specific show and they can prove he wasn't and that the song was written seven months before that.

That doesn't mean that they didn't plagarize parts of the song, though.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and have admittedly not listed to the other song, but it does happen.

I remember Albert Hammond sued Radiohead (and won) b/c they ripped off part of one of his songs when they made "Creep"

Violet hill is the only coldplay song i have liked since yellow. maybe its just not my type of music. but that song brought me back to try to explore this band, it didnt really catch my attention.

btw you can stream the album on thebuzz.com before you buy it. Also the cd is still 10 bucks at bestbuy.

    you should...

I'm more of a Hip hop/R&B listener myself and i like 'em (although i haven't got the new album). If you're into beats than you'll love 'em, i know Kanye and Swizzbeats do. I could care less about the lyrics, their music is pure genius though.

Haha I am the same way, love me some Jay Z, Lupe, Nas, Kanye, etc. But one of the few bands I like besides rap is Coldplay. Even Jay Z was seen at a recent Coldplay concert jamming to Lovers in Japan.

Oh I know, it just leads to more doubt when they can't get the details correct.

The funniest coincidence happened earlier today regarding this story.

The band who claimed Coldplay stole from is called Creaky Boards from here in Brooklyn. Anyways, I was walking back from a Evangelicals/Frog Eyes/Shearwater concert in Williamsburg at midnight, when lo and behold I see the lead singer of Creaky Boards walking through the streets of Williamsburg with his guitar and some other gear on some cart. He was talking to this other girl saying how he was heading over to a bar to get a drink. He is kind of distinguishable because of his large mustache. The lead singer was in front of me, but for some reason he turned and looked back at me.

I just thought it was funny, since I read about the story just yesterday. I didn't say anything to him, since I didn't have anything interesting to say.

Anyways, I see the similarities in the song although I think the Creaky Boards version has weak lyrics.
